Aluminum always gave me a better sense of safety and security. Actually, let me start by saying that I canceled the order through AMZ because shipping time appeared to take forever and the price is higher. After looking closely at the Crankbrothers Stamp 1 Pedal, I decided to go and install these on a youth size Trek. The Crankbrothers Stamp 1 are size specific, which is why I opted on this. Small for say shoe size 5-7 and Large for larger shoe sizes. The material outside is composite with metal pins, a solid feeling platform. The spindle is chromoly, insuring a safe and long lasting pedal. The pedal is comfortable and provides excellent traction. The pedal feels, looks better, and works better than any OEM pedal and other similar types of pedals. The Stamp 1 pedals are perfect for the youth size Trek. They are lighter than the MFG supplied pedals and so much better with a nice low profile. When I went to the local bike shop to obtain the proper tool, the service tech stated that the pedals are awesome!
