This fixed handle is a heavy cast aluminum (or equiv) and is sturdy. I estimate that 40-50% of one's weight can be applied to the rollers this way. The extending part of the handle in my experience collapses to an overall length of about 16", and then can be extended to a maximum of 26" or so. Going to the advertised 27" exceeds a limit that I would trust since the tubing itself is thin. A quick twist of the wrist clockwise as you face the rollers from the "front", locks the handle. A corresponding quick twist in the opposite direction releases the handle such that it's length can be adjusted within a range of 16"-26". There is a small plastic roller inside the rotating component of this handle that is employed by the tool to accomplish locking. This, in my opinion, would be the factor limiting the lifetime of the extending mechanism. At worst, this should not be an issue in most cases that I can imagine. To me it’s similar to roller blade or roller skate wheels but a nice smooth finish . They didn’t mark up my off-white tile at all while rolling it down. **Q: How do you put your weight on this and "roll" it?** A: I put my left hand on the front of the roller and push with my right, as I'm leaning over on the roller putting my weight on it **Q: How much does this actually weigh? What is the width of the roller?** A: Mine weighs just under 3 lbs and the width of the roller is 7". I used it to roll the new flooring in a small utility room.
