Review: The neatest gadget I own - Or at least its the neatest gadget in my kitchen! This is the coolest thing, and it actually works! In fact as soon as my friends saw it they immediately went to desertcart and ordered their own. I was the envy of the classroom :-) I use this to mix Amazing Grass with Almond Milk, and depending on what mood I'm in I'll either throw in a spoon of peanut butter or nutella for an added kick. And this thing is able to blend it all. You wouldn't think that little plastic u-shaped hook could handle it, but it does. The lid seals well, so you don't have to worry about any spills or splashes. In fact, all though the directions say not to do this, I have blended without the lid on :-) I also like that I don't have to hold the button for it to blend. One push and it does all the work for me, and if anything settles to the bottom, another quick push and everything is blended smoothly again. Batteries seem to last well. I use Duracell, and they've lasted since the day I bought it. I do recommend using quality batteries, the cheap one's won't work as well--I learned this the hard way on a recent trip where I forgot to pack my Duracells. Clean up--now this is the tricky part. Yep its great, awesome, does what it claims...so of course there must be a downside. Cleaning the lid is easy :-) The cup requires some finesse. You cannot submerge the cup in water due to the battery compartment. What I do is immediately rinse the cup when I'm finished with it. This is easily done with access to a sink and hot water. It rinses out easily, and you can blend the hot water to remove any build up. When home I use hot water and soap, blend well and wipe it clean. I let it air dry over night. If I don't plan on using the mixer for a long period of I time I make sure to remove the batteries. Other then the clean up issue, this is still an awesome mixer to use. I use it almost daily. It mixes heavy powdered protein drinks with ease--whether in water or soy/almond milk. Everyone who does buy one reports back happily with their purchase! I love mine, and god forbid if something happens to it I will purchase another!
Review: Dunno why I waited so long to get one... - First of all, let's be realistic and admit that this product is not a $699 Vitamixer, i.e., it's not built for heavy mixing or pulsing. It is meant to mix protein drinks, fruit juices and the like. I love it and can't believe I waited so long to look for a product to replace my messy Mason jar and lid. I use the Vortex to mix up my juice, water, vitamin powders and Metamucil in... twice a day. It is AWESOME for this purpose. It may only last a year if I take good care of it, but at this price and when considering how pleased I am with the product, that is fine for me... as long as they haven't discontinue such a great product by the time I need more for Christmas gifts... and I will be buying more for gifts. PRO's: *it is lightweight, and battery operated so very portable with no cord and chucks easily into gym bag or purse. *it's not ugly, with clean, modern lines. *lid is tight-fitting and has an open/close hole for travel and sipping - like a regular travel cup. *unlike one of the assertions in a negative review here, the rotating blade is made of a strong, stiff plastic and not out of paper. *it has 4, 6, 8, 10oz markers on the side, which is very convenient and avoids the need to measure juice or water first and then pour in. Mini-CON's: *do not submerge the entire unit or put into dishwasher. just be sure to rinse out the interior thoroughly with hot water immediately after each use so nothing sticks and dries on the inside. *don't try to twist off the bottom. batteries fit under a tight-fitting rubber flap on bottom. *remember to put liquids in first, then add any powders. *does not grind/emulsify/chop/mush-up anything... it is a lightweight mixer for mixing up lightweight elements - and not a blender or ice crusher. Highly recommend the Cellucor Vortex if your needs are similar to mine. IMPORTANT REVIEW UPDATE 8/20/13: Cannot say enough good about this Vortex! Going to buy another now just in case and several for gifts, 'cuz I can't do without it. FYI, best way I found to clean it on a daily basis is to rinse it out IMMEDIATELY after using and fill with very hot tap water and then turn it on... which will allow its spinning blade to swish out any residue easily and thoroughly. Pour out the water and set it aside to dry until you need it next time. Awesome unit.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Would this work with Li-Ion 3.6v batteries? I imagine the higher voltage would make the blender twice as fast/powerful, which could be great.**
A: OMG! I have no idea... Li-Ion batteries are a new subject for me. I still love the unit and bought 6 more for gifts from Santa.

**Q: can it blend ice, as in if i put in ice with my shake powder and ice mixture?**
A: No it won't blend ice. It has a hard time with my protein powder.

**Q: does anybody use this for just the vortexing of water and notice any difference in taste from non vortexed water?**
A: I can't say that there is a taste difference in my triple-filtered water before and after vortexing. I bought mineto infuse energy into the water when vortexing and also to mix my powdered supplements.

**Q: How do you clean the "inner lid"? most people that gave bad reviews are about not being able to clean part of the lid or inner seal...**
A: I he the same time. I'm using the second one I purchased and I'm making sure I clean it right away. The first one I soaked in hot water. I think it is more a stain then not being clean.

I've bought a ton of items from Amazon over the past few years. Making a purchase online for an item you can't touch or hold is difficult. You need to have good information and good reviews. So I'll be honest, I'm a little disappointed with this purchase. Pros: 1. Blends my Almond Milk and Plantfusion powder so that there are no clumps 2. Looks nice 3. Battery compartment is fairly easy to remove and replace batteries Cons: 1. Lid does not screw on, it is held by a rubber gasket, if the surface between the gasket and lid is wet when the cap is put on, it falls right off and spills all over your gym bag 2. The rim of the cup is stainless steel that is pressed onto the plastic of the cup. The stainless steel is not removable, and is poorly pressed onto the plastic, allowing your mix to get underneath the stainless steel with no way to clean it. After a few uses your cup starts to mold underneath the stainless steel and there is no way to get rid of it. I soaked it in soap and hot water, tried a tiny brush, nothing. It's the main reason why my score is so low. How can you design a container that will potentially hold perishable food ingredients and not make it so that it can be fully cleaned? My cup smells like old Almond Milk and it bothers me that there's nothing i can do about it. 3. Batteries. Stock up on them, lots of them. This cup eats batteries up almost once or twice a week. I use the cup once a day (breakfast) and run the cup for maybe 30 seconds to mix all my powder thoroughly. You can tell when the batteries are getting tired because you're chewing your powder mix with each sip. I've been using Duracell Duralock Power Preserve batteries, not the cheap kind at the dollar store. 4. The battery compartment. Almost every battery compartment has a spring on one side and a metal plate on the other, it's usually the easiest way to tell which side is positive and which side is negative without even checking for the symbols. Not this cup, it has two springs. The batteries do not feel secure in the cup and on occasion pop out facing downward making the base of the cup (rubber) wobble when you set it on a flat surface. 5. Mixing utensil inside of the cup is non removable. The cup has a mixing tool inside that mixes your drink and powder together. The piece is not removable and if your powder sticks to it, you have to rinse it immediately or you're squeezing your hand into a tiny cup to try and scrape it off. All in all, I would not recommend this cup to someone that depends on a mixed drink every morning or every time they work out. The cup is high maintenance and poor design. I would imagine a cup with a built in blender would completely come apart, like a blender that you would plug into an outlet. I don't like to give items poor reviews because reviews are usually based on the preferences of the buyer, but in this case, facts are facts. *UPDATE* In my last response to one of the questions on here, I reported that I no longer was using the cup because of the mold issue. It's been a while and I removed the cup from its storage spot on the cabinet. 2 fresh Duracell batteries later and the device is broken. The motor will no longer activate. I dropped my rating from 2 stars to 1 star. This cup looks cool, but it's a waste of money. Buy a manual shaker cup with a spring in it for $10 or $15 dollars and you'll be much happier with that. Between the batteries, cleanup, maintenance and poor motor, this is a waste.
