These look really light, do you think they would take a stain to darken them up a bit?

Um, no. They are natural sandstone, which is made of the mineral quartz. Because they are natural stone there is color variation: you either like that, or you don't. To colorize quartz, we apply X-rays or heat treatment (550°F). For quartz to be dyed (or "stained"), you would need to heat/quench it to crack the grains so that the dye would be accepted into the grains. Alternatively, yes: the coasters could "soak up" a stain, into the spaces between the sand grains; but this space is what allows water to be collected when used as a coaster. All of these defeat the purpose of using them as coasters, not to mention that the cork bottom would be destroyed.

Do costers have padded bottom? Concerned about scratching mirrored table.

Yes they have cork bottoms. These are the best coasters I have ever used. I have a glass and oak coffee table, never a scratch or any liquid ever on anything we use these on. Definitively 100% recommend.

I don't know. It seems cork like. It does not scratch other surfaces and does not sweat. Great coaster

How thick is each coaster?

3/8" is the coaster. But there is also cork at the bottom that is 1/16", so 7/16" total
