60 Day Duro

It's a little early for a proper review but, thus far, I'm very impressed with this lantern. I have six long wintery nights using a mix of "high", "medium", and "low" settings....using the cheapest batteries I could find (RayOvac), and it shows now signs of dimming or stopping. While it doesn't light up my 20' yurt like Vegas, the "high" setting provides ample light for reading, if close, and the "low" setting is great for seeing just enough to move around. On "high", it provides enough light for general tasks when placed in the center of the yurt.It is simple and seems well built and designed. I especially like how it can be used as a light by removing the top and turning upside down. There's a recessed bar in the bottom which one can use to hang from. However, I drilled holes in the upper bunks in my yurt...just big enough for the lamp to fit in (~1.75") while upside down, allowing me to place the lantern where I please to read while sitting or laying in the bottom bunk. Some of the other reviewers mentioned that the bottom is difficult to get back on after replacing the batteries. There are bright red and clearly visible arrows on mine which, are there to make this easy. And it is easy....if those arrows are lined up. Not difficult lining them up either....though it would be in the dark with no other light source.I like this lantern enough that I will likely get another for the yurt. One would remain stationary in the kitchen area while the second would be for task lighting.... when not in the center for general lighting.UPDATE, Nov 10, 2015: It's been nearly a year since I wrote that review. I have six additional nights on this lantern most of which were run on the "high" setting only...a few nights when my 12 yr old stayed up late reading. I'm on the same cheap batteries as last year. Repeat: These are the only set of batteries I've used in this thing and it's still going strong! It's probably not as bright as it would be with new batteries....but it's still going which amazes me. My one and only complaint is that the bottom IS difficult to align properly and get back on when replacing batteries (I've been removing mine between yurt visits). With good eyes and plenty of light, it's no problem. Otherwise, it can be a little frustrating. Otherwise, I am as impressed with this lantern as anything I've been impressed with....and with each yurt visit, we talk about how nice it would be to have another, if not two more of these lanterns.UPDATE #2, June, 19, 2016I have used this lantern another 15 nights, at least, since the last update...and the thing is still on the first and only set of cheap batteries! Unbelievable! It is obviously more dim now but still...if someone would have told me what I have/am writing here, I'd have a hard time believing it. I hung it up high and upside-down, with the top off, in the center of my yurt and it provides enough light for me for general tasks...even now that the batteries are losing juice. I take it down for reading. I'm now thinking a second one would be nice but really, I find no need. Amazing lantern!

This is a fantastic lantern. Uses 6 D cell batteries and runs forever. My first LED lantern was the General Electric Super Bright White lantern. I got it at costco for about 20 dollars and wish I had gotten 2 of them. It is a great light source and runs for a very long time. I've taken it camping several times and have really enjoyed it.Upgrades with UST 60 day is:- A much brighter light output, 508 lumens vs 300 lumens.- The light is a much softer light, easier to read by and if you look directly at the lantern not quite so blinding.- Size and weight! Huge improvement here, UST 60 is much smaller and lighter, better for getting around with or transporting. Fits in my car camping box much nicer.- Love the ability to take the globe off and hang it upside down. This will totally fill a room with light, equivalent to about a 40 to 60 watt bulb.- Both the GE lantern and the UST 60 are very well made, would recommend them as a quality product. However I will be buying another UST 60 for camping or power outages. Also this Christmas we bought UST 60 lanterns for our kids for Christmas, they cost more than twice the price of the GE lantern but they are worth it because of all the extra features.Another lantern I'm looking forward to trying is The Siege Lantern by Streemlight. It too looks well made and I like the red light feature.

We have two of these lanterns. We use them at our cabin, where they are excellent in providing a lot of illumination at the highest setting, and can be used as a night light or while getting ready for bed in the evening. The light is heavy enough (much of the weight is due to the weight of the 6 D-Cell batteries) to sit solidly and not be easily tipped over.Battery life is claimed to be very long and so far in our use we have not exhausted the batteries although we only use it for short periods of time in the evenings. It would be nice if they made this same lantern with a built-in rechargeable battery so that it did not require battery replacement from time to time. That is the main deficiency from my point of view.

The fact that I have to go out and buy batteries for the lantern is rather off putting!!! They should be included. However, the lantern is very bright! Easy to use, move and pack up. Had to get help with putting the batteries inside…

Great for home emergency kit, produces a lot of light on highest setting!

Great lantern! Well-made and tough. I use with Panasonic rechargeable Eneloop AA batteries paired with Panasonic battery adapters that allow you to use AA batteries instead of D cells. Rechargeable batteries are much less likely to leak versus alkaline. Even if you run into a leaky alkaline battery the terminals are easy to clean up with a Q-tip and a little vinegar to neutralize the base alkaline discharge followed up with some rubbing alcohol. Everything works great and light output beats the old Coleman battery powered lanterns. This is a buy it for life camping lantern. I also recommend the 30-day Duro for which I have a similar set-up. The base is really not that hard to screw-on. Read the instructions!

bought for a friend who talked about the challenge of using a flashlight to read during our increasingly frequent CA wildfire prevention/rolling blackout power outages. tried it myself 1st as it's a gift. not relevant for most, but it was nice that I could take it out without having to mutilate the box - no impenetrable plastic or strapped in with 27 lead-less zipties. did not have a problem putting in the 6 required D batteries - unit actually came with instructions. light weight plastic but feels well made - not brittle, super simple design. similar in size to a 1/2 gallon milk carton or a 14 cup coffee carafe. screams utility. everything obvious/intuitive - one button does it all: on, high, medium, off - your smart phone should be so simple - heck, your microwave. yep, taking off the protective plastic diffuser amps up brightness but I didn't find it necessary with all the lights off - was plenty bright enough to sit on a nightstand, get ready for bed, and read [12' by 15' room with adjoining bathroom, did not move lamp]. diffuser removed, unit on medium probably equals the high setting and would extend battery life. I used candles during my last power outage - its kind of expensive for a glorified flashlight but I'll probably wind up getting one of these for myself.NOTE: Don't let your batteries leak in this thing; the acid will completely dissolve/disintegrate the super thin flimsy metal prongs/contacts [learned the hardway]!

I gave this light 5 stars. There is only one drawback to this light, and it's not enough to knock off a star. I feel this light could be smaller. I understand that it needs to accommodate 6 D Cells, but they could have made it a little more compact. When you compare it next to the 30-day light it's huge. Of course, if you keep it in a house it might not be much of an issue, but it is something to consider if you live in an apartment like I do. It's also a lot to pack if your going camping as well. It's definitely more of a "base camp" size.I'm not going to get into the performance. There are several videos on YouTube of people who have tested these. It by far seems to outperform anything comparable. In my "less than scientific" tests, I have no reason to doubt the claims of this lantern's performance. I have had other LED lanterns and this is definitely a jump in performance. It has three well spaced levels. The lowest level (60-Day) is a good usable light if you really need to conserve battery life. It's not enough to light your way on a trail, but plenty of light to light a small room or tent. The high level is very bright, and will serve most needs if your really need to light up a large area. It's so bright that you probably won't even use that level so much. Medium and low would probably be used more. When you consider that you will most likely only use this lantern at night and only when you are awake, this will likely last you much longer than 60 days only just 6 D cells, if you use the levels wisely. Considering the price and performance you really can't go wrong with this lantern. If size could be an issue, I would strongly recommend the 30-day lantern. I have both. In hindsight, I would have just gotten two 30-day lanterns. They are considerably smaller, and arguably offer nearly the exact same performance.

Excelente buena calidad

Bought because of wire cutter, but it's expensive, not very bright and takes a ton of batteries - and then when it breaks the after sales support is non existent. Avoid.

Ilumina mucho! Está genial.Toma en cuenta que lleva 6 pilas de las gordas D.

Awesome lantern! It is strong, durable ands gives a great amount of light, even on the low setting

I always wanted a UST lantern and when I found out about the 60 day lantern and had the money I bought one. I saw the comparison made in a few online web pages and had to say that the 1200 lumen is more like 800 lumens but it is still bright enough to illuminate a living room. I have not tested the runtime accuracy...
