They are not plastic. **Q: What is the adhesive on the back made from? is it natural or zero voc?** A: I would say it's just a general tacking glue. I purchased 2, I would not buy this again. The adhesive wasn't string enough and it came in a roll and was impossible to get it to lie flat after trying several different things over multiple days. I finally secured some if 1 roll to the wall with drywall screws.
