## Description

Mastering the Nikon D7100 by Darrell Young provides a wealth of experience-based information and insights for owners of the new D7100 camera, exploring the features and capabilities of the camera in a way that far surpasses the user's manual. Darrell helps the user navigate past the confusion that often comes with complex and powerful professional camera equipment, guiding readers through the features with step-by-step setting adjustments; color illustrations; and detailed how, when, and why explanations for each option. Every button, dial, switch, and menu configuration setting is explored in a user-friendly manner, with suggestions for setup according to various shooting styles. Darrell's friendly and informative writing style allows readers to easily follow directions, while feeling as if a friend dropped in to share his knowledge. The learning experience for new D7100 users goes beyond just the camera itself and covers basic photography technique.

Review: Buy and read this book if you have a Nikon D7100! - I agree with all the positive reviews here. This is the second Nikon book I bought written by Darrell Young. (The other one is for the Nikon D90.) He has an uncanny ability to clearly and concisely help the reader understand everything about the Nikon D7100. He gives great explanations for all the settings as well as personal recommendations as to how he uses the camera under various conditions. The book is easy to read and I highly recommend it to anyone who is new to the Nikon D7100. And that goes for first-time DSLR owners as well as enthusiasts and professionals. You owe it to yourself to get this book (or one similar to it) if you want to fully understand your Nikon D7100. This is a very powerful, sophisticated camera with an enormous amount of settings. This book will help you use it correctly and enjoy all it has to offer. I've read a few negative reviews about the D7100 (mostly about focusing problems) and I'm pretty sure those people just don't understand how to use this camera's great automatic focusing mechanism under all circumstances. This is very critical for any DSLR camera. If you're trying to depend only on the camera's owner's manual, you are doing yourself (and the camera) a great injustice. Get this book and read it as you play with your new toy. You'll be glad you did, as it will make you a better photographer!
Review: A Must Have for new D7100 Owners - especially amateurs. - This was the first book I bought when I got my new Nikon 7100. It is my first high quality (expensive) DSLR. The book is well-written by an author who is obviously expert with this and many other Nikon products. If you're like me, when you first get the camera you're overly cautious in pushing buttons and adjusting settings. The thing is a little intimidating, frankly. I'm sure many people who buy this camera are prone to set it to Auto and fire away, vowing to learn all the other "stuff" later. Young is very successful in getting the reader to the point where you know how and what changes you are making and what the results will be on the image as a result. He walks the reader through the several menus on the camera and made me much more comfortable as a result. I have since bought two other books on the 7100: Busch's Field Guide and Battdorf's From Snapshots to Great Shots. While discussing the same camera, all are a little different, all are valuable and all take a bit of a different approach. I'm just a little nuts like that I suppose. When you consider what you spent on the camera, the tri pod, the external flash, the bag and what you will spend on the 70-200mm VRII lens (and you will buy that eventually) the cost of these books is miniscule and the information is really valuable. I highly recommend Mastering the Nikon D7100. If Nikon was smart, they would include this book with every purchase of this camera and every other camera they make.

Very thorough coverage of every facet of the Nikon D7100. Excellent photographs clearly show all menus and features of the camera. I like that the author references all page numbers in the user guide that comes with the camera. The authors writing style makes it is easy to understand and navigate even the most complicated aspects of the D7100's operation. This book is not some dry rehash of the user manual, but a friendly welcoming guide that is a pleasure to read.
