Does this model come with the same 16gb base memory and support the same upgrade to 32gb as the freenas mini? or does it have 32gb already?

The FreeNAS Mini XL comes standard with 32GB of memory.

What temperature are the HDs reporting with say 8 drives populated and with the unit at room temperature 70 - 75 degrees?

My drives have regularly been seeing temperatures in the mid to high 40s with occasional spikes into the 50s. I setup warnings within FreeNAS and was getting emails when running scrubs or transferring files. These are 7200 rpm HGST/Hitachi Deskstar NAS drives. Some WD Reds at 5400 rpm were a little cooler, but not much. Room is typically in the 70-75 degree range, sometimes cooler. I purchased a Fractal Define R5 case (and a new power supply) and shifted the components into it and the temps have dropped into the 30s with the extra room and spacing of drives.

What is the maximum supported ram configuration for the mini xl? i'm concerned that i might run out of memory for zfs in an 8x8tb configuration.

The maximum supported memory for the motherboard is 64 GB. Please be aware that you must use ECC ram.
