In my opinion it does not change the tone of my amp sound enough to frustrate me. I have gone through several overdrive pedals looking for a tonel fit for my sound and this fits the bill when looking for a mild to medium gain structure in playing classic rock tunes for gigs. I use an OCD overdrive to give me the higher gain I want for lead playing as well.
