Are you able to comfortably sleep on your side with this product?

No,this is a great item but you will sleep on your back in comfort. When I broke my ankle this I cold not sleep in any position. I highly recommend this product. PS look into a knee scooter it is a great item for transportation.

Would this work for a child who is 4 ft 8 inches?

I don't think so. I am 5'5" and could pull it right up to my thigh and comfortably rest my leg in the channel. I envision a child's thigh as shorter and having their hips off the couch or bed in order to rest their leg in the channel. It is returnable, but would be difficult to return as it arrives completely flat in plastic--once opened it rises.

Description

Intended for individuals with leg casts, those requiring stable elevation, and also for internal/external rotation control
Allows you to comfortably elevate and maintain the proper knee and lower leg position at a 45-degree angle
Constructed of dense, fire retardant foam that prevents it from flattening, which effectively provides sustained elevation
Friction from the foam means the leg elevator won't slide off the bed, and your leg won't slide off the elevator; Measures 31.5" L x 10" H
Universal design allows the ProCare Leg Elevation Foam Support Pillow to be used on either the left or right leg; One size fits most

The ProCare Leg Elevation Foam Support Pillow features a full foam construction that allows you to comfortably elevate and maintain the proper knee and lower leg position at a 45-degree angle. It's ideal for individuals with leg casts, those requiring stable elevation, and also for internal/external rotation control, post-trauma or a surgical procedure. It's constructed of dense, fire retardant foam that prevents compacting. The friction from the foam means the leg elevator won’t slide off the bed, and your leg won't slide off the elevator. Elevating your leg on traditional pillows can be difficult because your leg can roll side-to-side. In addition, traditional pillows can become compacted and flatten out over time, making the elevation less effective. The ProCare Leg Elevation Foam Support Pillow measures 31.5" L x 10" H. One size fits most.
