Jumbo Philbin

TL;DR version: Gund bears and stuffed animals have been around since I was a preteen so I wanted to find Gund teddy bears for two expected great-grands, one boy and one girl. I looked at all the Gund bears, read many reviews on each, and narrowed it down to Slumbers and Philbin. I decided on one of each and I'm delighted with both of them! Super soft, appear to be well made, and oh so huggable! Comparisons below and in the attached photo. Because I had already bought a soft cloth "first doll" for the expected girl, the first bear I looked for was for the expected boy. I'm fascinated by grizzly bears and wanted a (sweet) bear with that look for him. Slumbers seemed to fit that bill. One review said that Slumbers isn't as weighted as Philbin and although only an inch shorter than the larger (18" version) Philbin, Slumbers looked a good bit smaller because of Philbin's larger head. I ordered Slumbers and loved him so much I immediately ordered another for myself, LOL. I love his round fat tummy and big bear paws. After a few days of loving these bears I decided the girl must also get one at her baby shower, too, along with the soft doll (both are also getting small white fluffy lambs, but oh well!), but I wanted a different style for her and maybe a lighter color. Philbin is available in light and dark fur in two sizes. I was afraid the larger 18" Philbin would be too big and maybe heavier so I decided on the 12" beige Philbin. He arrived today and is also perfect! Both look just like the photos on their product pages and both are adorable. Both will easily sit unsupported, although I can't detect that either is weighted. Both are lightweight. Both's legs will hang down when picked up. (I don't understand the review that said Slumbers is in a permanent sitting position; he isn't.) Both are very, very soft, have sweet faces, and are totally lovable and huggable. Both came sealed in a Gund plastic bag with an attached Gund tag and sewn-in label. The website says surface washable only, but several reviews mention gently washing and air drying with no harm. Slumbers is a 17" bear (about 11" when seated), and I got the 12" Philbin (9" when seated). Slumbers has a bigger body/tummy and smaller head and has a sweet papa bear look. Philbin has a proportionally larger head and smaller body and he has a sweet, more whimsical look. Philbin's front paws are proportionally larger. I love the big bear paws on their hind legs and both have those. Very pleased with these bears, and any of the others would probably be just as adorable. They also seem to be a good value for the brand and quality at the price I paid (about $24 for each.) However, the prices vary greatly from day to day, sometimes even doubling. These are great teddy bears for the young or old and I hope the babies will love them. Edit to add: Their fur is not scraggly-looking! No idea why the photo looks that way. They are both good-looking bears.

If you’re looking for a holiday gift, a birthday gift, or just a cuddly companion, look no further! The Gund Philbin Teddy Bear is just what you need to put a smile on anyone’s face. This adorable teddy bear is appropriate for consumers of all ages. Buy it for your child, your friend, or even for yourself! The Gund Philbin Teddy Bear is a special breed of teddy bear, unmatched in its hug-ability, durability, and plushness. Hug-ability: What’s a stuffed animal without cuddles? Hint: clutter. However, a stuffed animal with cuddles is a friend for all. If you value your stuffed animals for their hugs and cuddles, you need a Gund Philbin Teddy Bear; I’ve never met stuffed animal as huggable as this Teddy Bear. I bought him for my youngest brother (age 5) who adores his new friend; I’m hard pressed to find the two apart! I purchased the smaller size bear for him, and it was the right size for him, but I’d suggest “sizing up” if you aren’t sure which size to buy because he’s slightly smaller than I expected. Durability: You may be wondering if such a huggable bear can withstand all the wear and tear. No worries – I’ve put your doubts to the test. Before I gifted the bear, I washed him to give him a little spruce after his journey through the postal carrier. I followed the specific instructions he came with, and after washing him I found he was even softer than when he arrived. I have no doubts this Gund Philbin Teddy Bear will last a long time since he came out his first wash so nicely. You’ve got a long-time friend in this teddy bear. Plushness: I attribute the exceptional quality of the Gund Philbin Teddy Bear to its extreme plushness. This bear’s fur is soft like a cloud, and his stuffing is not firm or stiff, giving an extra dimension to the bear’s plushness and making him especially great for those planning to regularly sleep with this stuffed animal. I am 21 and saw plenty of stuffed animals come and go over my childhood, but none as plush as this specific bear. This plush feature is especially important for anyone with sensitive skin (especially young children). I recommend the Gund Philbin Teddy Bear to all consumers, regardless of age, because there is truly no better stuffed bear out there. The Gund Philbin excels far beyond other stuffed animal friends in its hug-ability, durability, and plushness. You and your loved ones will be happy you chose Gund Philbin!

Best teddy bear around! Super soft, cuddly, & so adorable! I've had 2 now & they last forever! Such a great value!

Such a cute and cuddly teddy bear! I just love his super soft fur. Very good quality and a perfect gift for bear lovers. Good size for snuggling. Sweet face and good value. Exactly as pictured and described in the listing.

Beautiful… gift for a baby shower

My 2nd grandson loves his new Teddy! Destined for memorable

This bear sits 14" high from top of the head to rear; the four added inches (equalling 18) are for adding the legs when they extend. This bear is intended to sit (not stand), so the legs do not fully extend or drop down far; most of the length is in head and torso. I posted video to help people with the question I had: What how does this 18" Teddy bear look and feel in real life? I can tell you it felt smaller than I imagined it would (but I'm not reducing the rating for that). I purchased this bear for an adult family member for Christmas and wanted to make sure it would be substantial enough for cuddling (which it is). While I wish I had shopped some stores first (because it turns out Teddy Bears are everywhere this time of year in all sizes, textures and colors, with great prices and high quality), this bear has a lot of pros: PROS - Cute expression and body - Well made, durable (tough stitching) - Very flexible limbs (so it has a "floppy" feel, which makes it easy to move and cuddle with - Fairly soft (though more curly/soft than plush fur) - Cute neutral color - Sits up well (does not stand, though) - Made in the USA (tag provides all info on that) - Arrived quickly with Prime (in time for Christmas) - The box alone can be worth spending a little extra to buy this online when you need to wrap it and would not otherwise have a box:) CONS - Lesser value than Teddy Bears available in the stores right now for the same price. - Needs a bow around its neck.

We LOVE these so adorable and cuddly we have the whole collection!

Philbin is adorable and super cuddly. Going to be my BFF (best bear friend).

Excelente

I was looking for a nice big teddy for my little boy to cuddle up to and this certainly fits the bill. It's a large teddy and a good price for that, given that the Jellycat toys of a similar size are about double the price. The fur is ruffly, very soft and does not moult. He washes well. He is very squashy and his long arms mean you can make him hug your child back. An ideal bear for any age.

This bear is soft, with some small beads at the base, which enables him to sit upright. He’s really therapeutic as every time I look at him, I smile. Fantastic for cuddles while reading. I feel like I have a pet, without the hassles of walking and feeding! This plush toy brings solid joy to my life!
