Metal Enclosure Box

A Surprisingly Capable Enclosure for a Real Fabrication Project I bought this enclosure for a fairly demanding home-built control system, not simply to house a small PCB. I needed something I could actually machine, drill, modify, and populate with full-size industrial components. The enclosure has been excellent for that purpose. The panels are substantial enough to machine cleanly, and I was able to fabricate custom openings and mounting points without the material feeling flimsy or difficult to work with. For example, I machined a custom clearance opening and four mounting holes to install an exterior-grade NEMA 5-15 receptacle. I also machined openings for a PID controller, E-stop, fuse, cable entry, and thermocouple feed-through. The panels held their dimensions well and produced clean, precise results. I'm still completing the build, but with the components mounted, the enclosure already looks like a proper piece of equipment rather than a generic project box. It has enough room to separate high-voltage AC wiring from low-level thermocouple wiring, which was important for my application. The photos show the enclosure as I actually fabricated and populated it, rather than simply photographing the box straight out of the package. That's probably the best endorsement I can give it: this is a box you can actually build something substantial with. For anyone doing serious DIY electronics, controls, instrumentation, or industrial-style projects at home, this enclosure gives you a very good starting point.

This case fit my needs perfectly. The seller has a wide assortment of sizes and shapes. I made a template for what all I wanted to put in the case and chose the one that suited my needs. The cases are made out of 20 Gauge aluminum (0.812 mm or.03196”). The aluminum is thick enough to be sturdy but also thin enough that you can make cut-outs in it without much difficulty. I used a tool called a nibbler and a file for the fine work. The case has two reinforcement pieces of angle iron (probably not iron but I am not sure what it is) that go from the front to the back at the top of the case. This probably adds to the sturdiness of the case – great idea. I have just a few cautions, and this is no way meant to denigrate the case. The case is great! There is an old adage that says “measure twice – cut once”. I modified it to “measure twice, mark guide lines, measure guide lines, measure the device you are making the cut-out for and verify the guide lines are correct, then cut the metal”. I have to admit I didn’t follow this to a tee on the first case I bought. I ruined the front panel. I have been working on this project for quite a while and wanted it to look good so I bought another case. They are reasonably priced so the replacement case was not a significant hit to my budget. I did buy a piece of sheet metal from Lowes and a can of spray paint (Gloss Sail Blue Spray Paint) . Both items together were less than $10. The sheet metal from Lowes was big enough make several panels. I have also used Gloss Burgundy Spray Paint for the front panel of a power supply I built. See Pictures. I have completed a couple other projects using various case sizes. The cases can hold a surprising number of components. The seller has excellent customer service! I asked a question on-line and got an answer the next day. Also, they ship very quickly.

Exactly as advertised. Good value. Sized accuracy. Thickness and sturdiness what you’d expect at this price point. My only gripe is mine was missing two screws. I was able to adapt and happy it’s purchase overall.

I used this to house a DIY 300 watt amplifier, consisting of an amplifier module and a separate power supply. This was one of the only relatively lower priced boxes I could find that would fit both devices with room to spare. This was no flimsy box. It is VERY well made. I used a drill to create a big enough hole and then used a nipper to create a rectangular hole for the Speakon outputs. It took a while for my drills to drill the various holes I needed as the material was pretty thick. If I need another project box, I would certainly look for one, if not this one, but another one made by the same company. Like most things these days, I found the box to be WAY over-priced, but there are no bargains to be found anymore when you are looking for similar boxes.

Why they would send a metal cabinet in a plastic bag is beyond me. Completely scuffed and scratched and missing screws because the plastic bag was torn up pretty good by the time it got here but at least it was salvageable. I had my own screws thankfully. Otherwise is a good value for a decent little cabinet. Works good for a quick power supply I needed to make up in a jiffy. Luckily I’m not selling these or I’d be out of luck with all the scratches, dents etc. Is solid enough and easily configurable with almost every piece of it able to be removed when needed. Vent holes are a nice feature as well. UPDATE (10/20/23): I took a chance and ordered another one because the price is so appealing. This time the box came in a cardboard box and plastic wrapped so…no scuffs or dents this time! So definitely worth buying. Nice solid box.

It's... adequate. I might even order another if I really wanted one. But it's definitely no five-star product. The metal is thinner than I expected, but not to the point of being useless. The internal angled supports are even worse, practically paper thin. It looks a bit like an old steel PC case painted blue, doesn't it? Well, it's built a bit like a cheap one of those, the kind you could bend by hand if you felt like it, where I was expecting a heavier, rigid construction. Speaking of, if you expect to put the fascia behind the plastic and see/use those rectangular openings, get ready for some metal work. The face plates are a little too large on all sides to fit there. You'll have to grind or sand it down. The screw holes are so near to the edges though that I'd be afraid to take a power tool to it, for fear of removing too much material and breaching them. I spent a long time with a 400 grit stone to remove exactly enough material. And even now that the panels fit inside, they lack the structural support that mounting outside the plastic, as intended, would have given them, so I'm probably going to have to add some square dowels to encourage them to stay in place. Is it a bad product? Not really. It's just cheap and functional, and sometimes that's all you need.

This box is perfect for my power supply project. Its thickness is great: not too thin or too thick. Drilling does not dent it at all, but with all projects always be careful and don't act like superman while drilling. It doesn't take much pressure to drill. I like how you can take the whole thing a part if necessary, but taking off just the two front panes was good for me. I'll buy more of these boxes (different sizes) when needed. They also have vent holes which is a plus. Great boxes and not expensive but reasonable prices.

I was a bit skeptic when I placed this order, usually boxes this size are three times the price. When it arrived, I was pleasantly surprised. This box was well built, and very easy to work with. It has now become the housing for our radio stations pirate 1,000 watt broadcast transmitter. I would recommend this product, and if need, will purchase again.

Come with all screws and foots.

needed for a small project, nicely made, as others have noted end plates are a bit thin, but ok for me, had small damage on one plastic bezel when received

LLegó en buenas condiciones y a tiempo. Me resultó muy útil por su fácil acceso y sólida construcción.
