works as advertised. Most importantly: unlike the IVSO hub adapter that only claims it charges the MacBook while also connecting the USB devices, this one actually does it! I was able to connect to two portable HDs and do a hard-wired back-up while charging. OtherWorldComputing is advertising a nice USB-C hub for three times the price of this adapter; though it appears to be more complex, their promised delivery has slipped from September 2015 until today, and still counting... The only drawback of this adapter is that its physical connection to the MacBook, via the USB-C port, is flimsy. One has to be careful not to disconnect it by the sheer weight of the 3 cables attached to it....

Like other reviews stated, cosmetically this device is beautiful. It fits well and looks like an OEM product. Unfortunately on closer look you can tell the build quality is quite Apple quality. For the price... That's acceptable. One major flaw that's hard to ignore is that it can get HOT with usage. Why? Can't really tell. I still recommend it because it DOES do what it advertises.

Updated review: I bought this November 2016, and didn't start using it until my laptop arrived just before Christmas 2016. I thought about keeping it in my go bag, but, since I work from home, it ended up just living on a quiet portion of my desk. I have a hub built in to my monitor, so this really only got used as a memory card reader about once a month or so. It is now completely dead. My Macbook Pro does not recognize it as a USB hub. I've tried all the ports. It simply lights up and gets incredibly hot (pretty much too hot to touch). So, in 8 months, with maybe 3 dozen uses, this hub has completely failed. Please don't waste your money on this product. There are better ones on the market. Stay away from Satechi. Original review: First off, this is the best product out there (right now) for connecting all of your peripherals on the go. However, there are a couple reasons this gets 3 stars instead of 5. It gets uncomfortably warm when it's plugged in - even when nothing is connected. It also doesn't seem very stable - I would have liked to see this be the same height as the MacBook Pro, because it seems like it's going to break if you touch the top of it. I'd love to see this same adapter with two connections and a direct USB-C 3.1/Thunderbolt 3.0 port (not a lower output USB 3.0 only without Thunderbolt support) added, as well as a vent or two. Pretty much every adapter in this class/style that has a second USB-C/Thunderbolt 2.0 port blocks the side of the computer and lacks the ability to use a Thunderbolt device, requiring plugs to go on both sides of the computer. In my opinion, this is great for occasional use and for throwing in your bag for usage on the go, but I wouldn't depend on this for a daily hub.

The only problem with this product (and it is not a problem yet but I can imagine that it will become an issue) is that the design makes it so that it "hangs" on to the laptop by a very small attachment. At some point (and hopefully a year from now and not two weeks from now), that will weaken and potentially snap off. It may require Apple to remove it from the laptop if that happens.

EDIT again: rated this back down to 3 stars. I received the 2nd one they shipped me. The customer service is amazing. However the new product still has the same issue as the first- it cannot read my HDD unless the hub is connected to the charger as well. I guess that's how the product is designed? This rating is 3 stars because with this problem, it is not worth anywhere near $45 in my opinion and because it is not explained on the box or in the Amazon product description about reading an external HDD. thanks for the great customer service Satechi but this product needs work or your description needs to be updated. Thank you Satechi ------ This adapter only reads my external hard drive when the charger is also plugged in the usb-c port. i don't know if mine is defective or this is how it's meant to be but it was not mentioned anywhere in the description. if i plug in my iphone alone it reads it fine, however i am sure if i try to plug in two devices it won't work unless its in the charger which defeats the purpose of this adapter in my opinion. i read some bad reviews on this product but i bought it anyway thinking it probably won't happen to me but i was wrong.

The product works as advertised, color matches nicely. Sits flush, no stress on the connector with SD cards and flash drivers. Charging through Macbook and operating with devices as iPhone 6 and flash USB 3.0 drives of several kinds, USB 2.0 and 3.0 external Hard Drives and SD cards. However, connecting a USB extension hub (with 4 ports), only the USB 2.0 including flash drives and 3.0 devices HD non flash will work properly, the flash USB 3.0 drives won't work with an extension Hub, due to OS X conflict which I hope it will be fixed with future OS X updates. It's a small delicate adapter so it has to be treated gently, nothing out of the ordinary.

I’d give it three stars, but the fact that it matches the finish on my MacBook earns it a style star. This particular one has a good combination of ports, but the SD card has to be put in upside down (not that it’s inconvenient) and the USBs stick out quite a bit (they barely go in). It gets warm after extended use, but isn’t hot to the touch. The light is nice as is the overall look of the product, but it does get scratches. Two things bother me about it, though. Whatever I insert into the adapter is not recognized by my laptop unless it is not already plugged into the USB C port. Meaning that I have to unplug and replug it anytime I insert something which is quite annoying if you have multiple things attached. Second thing that kind of sucks is that it sort of swings around. Because the plugin is at the end, it dangles unless on a flat surface like a desktop. Without moving the connector to the middle, I’m not sure there’s much to be done unless you buy one with a cable which would dangle as well. EDIT: SD card slot has stopped working after less than a year without extensive use. It seems the more I use it, the less it is recognized by my laptop despite using the same drives and SD cards everytime. I need a new one and I will not be getting this one again.

This is the perfect add-on for my new Macbook. While I love my computer, the single USB C port doesn't help when I'm conducting interviews for my podcast and I need a USB 3.0 port and USB C passthrough to keep this thing charged! This is the perfect solution and the color matches, to boot! Do yourself a favor if you're suffering the same issue with the Macbook and splurge on this little guy. You'll thank yourself later.

Habe mir diesen Adapter ebenfalls bestellt und bin komplett zufrieden. Er macht (für meine Zwecke) alles was er soll Die Geschwindigkeit ist ebenfalls super, habe jetzt allerdings keine messtechnischen Daten. Die Farbe passt nicht zu 100 % (Space Grau- siehe Bilder), aber das stellt für mich kein Problem dar. Der zweite USB-C Port bleibt frei und kann (z.b. Zum Laden) genutzt werden (siehe Bilder) Einzig der schon angesprochene Höhenunterschied von Adapter zu Tisch macht mir auf Dauer etwas Sorgen. Habe mir hier mit einem runden Klebepunkt Aus einem Filzgleiter Set weitergeholfen (siehe Bilder) Alles in allem ist er jedenfalls zu empfehlen und Ich würde ihn wieder kaufen.

Love this for my Samsung Galaxy Book! As there is no USB slot, this is essential for this tablet. It's very compact but still allows you to connect several devices of varying types. Also love that it has a USB C slot so you can charge your device if there's only 1 USB slot. Great product!
