Review: Saved my lab partners final project w this hot air tool - A couple days before my classmate had to demo his final project he sends me a picture of his board all messed up asking if I can help him because I’m the goat when it comes to soldering. I can do SMD with an iron most of the time but looking at the picture I thought an air tool would be best for the job. I did a quick search on desertcart and found this item. It was next morning delivery too!! So I get to the lab set it up and went to work fixing my friends board. I was happy to see they include a selection of tips from fine to wide. The temperature control had three presents that can each be individually adjusted which is pretty cool. Something neat about this tool is when you put the hand held part in the holder (or turn it upside down) it shuts the heat off and runs the fan for a bit to cool it down. When you hold it like you’re going to solder (or reflow) it begins to heat up. It heats up pretty quickly (I was impressed). I didn’t make a fuss about measuring the temperature or even really reading the instructions, it was extremely easy to use. For the price this purchase was totally worth it. I used it to fix his board, I used it on a couple circuits for myself, as my classmates noticed it they began to ask to use it on their boards too. It was a big hit in the lab, everyone who used it had great results from soldering components to using it on heat shrink tubing it worked great! I would definitely recommend this tool! One last thing to add. You can also adjust the amount of air it blows. Using a fine tip and turning down the airflow it’s extremely accurate and precise.

However there is no getting around the fact that a pencil iron is like a sledge hammer used to set a thumbtack when it comes to the incredibly small and densely packed SMT solder pads and parts these days. And forget removing a high density IC, especially those with heat transfer pads on the back. This gun, with the help of a couple helpful youtube videos on technique has allowed me to to build and repair PCBs that I would not even try before I had it. The build quality is first rate. The feel of the tool in hand is excellent. The range of temperature and air volume control offered seems right for my needs. It heats up quickly, and both the heat and air volume capability is well beyond anything I am currently needing to remove even the largest LSI. The wand stays cool in hand and the selection of air tips lets me control how concentrated I want the heat, depending on the size of the part. Having the option of saving 3 temp profiles is very handy when moving between part sizes and/or solder melt temps. I practiced removing large chips, small chips and individual small components using the PCBs from a couple dead HDD. I also used them to re-prep pads and install these parts. I was quickly able to dial in the temp and air settings to easily remove, clean and install all the parts without lifting or damaging solder pads, although I would bet most of parts I removed are overbaked at this point because of the time I spent heating and reheating them... I am delighted with this purchase. I have found myself taking parts off dead PCB's just for fun (and more practice).

A: No this is a US 120v and temp is in Fahrenheit 
Ask seller there is an 220v version of this unit but this is not.

**Q: Where can I buy other tips that will fit this unit ?**
A: A search on amazon for "hot air nozzle" provides a lot of choices

**Q: Sufficient for capacitor replacement on thick pc motherboards?**
A: If you are doing surface mount work, the thickness of the PCB is not likely to be a significant factor, and this device can get more than hot enough anyway.  Of course, this device is not suitable for doing through-hole capacitor replacement - for that one needs a pump-driven desoldering tool.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Works perfect and a wonderful addition to my soldering station.

Amazing tool. I got some projects that came with SMD chips and couldn’t make it work with my typical soldering iron so I tried this. I love watching it melt the soldering paste and the little chips with align themselves and solder to the board. You can dial in the exact temperature you need. It heats up so fast when you take it off the base. Comes with tweezers but I’m getting some that are magnetic. The air volume control is very nice, you can give it a gentle air or set it to damn near blow the chips off the board. I’m so glad I bought this and have even purchased some SMD practice boards. Make sure you get some good high quality soldering paste.
