I am looking at one I bought right now, and the wire IS marked 600 volts right on it. They can be used for 40 amp loads at lower voltages in my opinion since they ship with 40 amp fuse directly from the factory. So it seems that 45-55 volts would be of little concern as long as you keep the amperage under control. 120 volts @ 4 amps translates to 12volts @ 40 amps which is probably why they are equipped with 40 amp fuses from the factory. Obviously, you would use a lesser rated fuse at 45 VDC.
