Jicama is a root vegetable that is a sweet delight. This does not in any way, shape, or form taste like a turnip and it does not have the mushy texture that a turnip has. Pull it up, wash it, peel it, and slice it thin. It is delicious and makes a great snack as is or in a salad. The jicama produces tall climbing vines and a white turnip shaped root that tastes like water chestnuts. The large tuberous roots can be eaten raw or cooked and are used as a source of starch.
