Uprising would be the final studio album featuring Bob Marley & the Wailers to be released during Marley's lifetime. Prophetically, it also contains some of the band's finest crafted material, as if they were cognizant that this would be their final outing. The album's blend of religious and secular themes likewise creates a very powerful and singular quest for spirituality in a material world. Now on 180 gram vinyl in original artwork. Review: So Much More Than Just "Redemption Song" - If the only track on UPRISING worth listening to was it's best "Redemption Song" then that alone would be worth the price of admission. But this album was so very much more than that one song although it gets all the praise and to an extent rightly so. This album may be the most openly "Rastafarian" of all of his previous releases and has many undertones of his spirital and philosophical beliefs. This would be his last studio recording as a year later, in 1981, we would lose this great revolutionary as he would succumb to the illness that was already taking it's toll on his body. I've always wondered if he knew his time with us was growing short and he decided that this, his last album, would be a kinda of final will and testament to everyone as to who Robert Nesta Marley was all about. It is one of the most straightforward of all his recordings, in my opinion, and tells the story of the Rasta Man's visions and dreams for his & all people. Side one 1."Coming in from the Cold" - 4:33 2."Real Situation" - 3:10 3."Bad Card" - 2:52 4."We and Dem" - 3:16 5."Work" - 3:42 This first side tells the story of the African people coming to terms with their current situaitons and giving graphic detail as to who we are and who there were as is the song "We And Dem". This is classic Marely, naming all players involved in the struggle and calling on the "Children Of The Sun" to recognized that they were better than this. Side two 6."Zion Train" - 3:34 7."Pimper's Paradise" - 3:26 8."Could You Be Loved" - 3:56 9."Forever Loving Jah" - 3:51 10."Redemption Song" - 3:49 This second side reminds me so much of the writings of Curtis Mayfield, in particular, when he was with The Impressions, the group that influenced The Wailers the most. It very much has a KEEP ON PUSHING / PEOPLE GET READY type of feel to it and you can hear the influence of Mayfield & those two albums in Marley's writing as he sings of the not only redemption but African & indeed all oppressed people coming out of their current situations and going into the blessings that Jah has for them. Overall, this is a wonderful testament to Marley's genius, beliefs and ideals. I have loved this album since it's release back in 1980. After he passed on from us, it became more special as it was like him giving us one last gift before bidding us all farewell. We miss you Nesta and may Jah continue to be with you in the Worlds you now inhabit. Rest In True Peace. Review: Uprising Bob Marley - Excellent album by Bob and glad to have in my collection

Classic
The last recorded album of a legend and it is a remarkable and timeless piece of work. Coming in from the cold is a steady and pensive track that gets you grooving and thinking at the same time. Entire recording is phenomenal and makes you wonder what more we couldโve gotten from this talented artist taken way too soon

This to me sounds like one of his most personal recordings in which we hear Bob and not all his influences.
Bob is a rare artist in which his live recordings are perhaps better then his studio attempts. Now that being said this is an excellent album all the way through. This album to me really sounds like him being him. What I mean is that this sounds like the culmination of his influence where some of his earlier albums come off a little less him and a little more of his influences. There is a lot of funk on this album but not the James Brown or P-Funk type. It is a genuine Bob type of funk that sounds more original then some of his other albumsโฆ..to me anyway.

Excellent product with great sound quality. However, upon delivery there was a crack in the jewel case. This is understandable, but can be prevented with more insulated packaging.
