This unit will retrieve a max anchor weight of 35lbs but TRAC recommends not going over 30LBs as often sticks and mud can come up with the anchor adding additional weight. If the river is a very strong current then it might not be sufficient. So the bottom line is will your boat be held in place in the rivers you anchor in with a 30LB anchor (it is also recommended that a river or mushroom anchor be used) ... Not sure if you can adjust so anchor sits horizontal. **Q: have a 21 ft. stripper fishing boat. It weighs about 5,000lbs. Would like an electric anchor winch. What do you suggest? Cost to install?** A: I installed mine on a 185 Bass Tracker. After understanding what this is capable of and what it is not, should enjoy for many years. I have a 16lb river anchor for a 20' pontoon that I mostly anchor in shallower water and never go boating on windy days. Auto-deploy works flawlessly and horizontal storage is fantastic. You cannot let this thing pull harder than it is designed for or you will just break it. When ready to retrieve anchor, just short pulses on the up button will easily turn your boat to line up the line and then just keep using short duration pulses to draw boat to the anchor. When line is about to be vertical, reach down and pull the line to "unstick" anchor from the muddy bottom then you can winch right up.
