French Lavender Flower - Lavandula Stoechas x 50 French or Papillon/Butterfly Lavender has lovely, big flowers with little tufts of purple bracts at the top of the ears. The flowers grow to 5-8 cm with magenta-purple bracts. Butterflies love to visit this lavender so if you want to attract butterflies to your garden, this lavender variety is highly recommended. In contrast to 'common' lavender, this actually spreads a lovely pine scent! Lavandula stoechas flowers earlier and longer than 'common' lavender making it a very useful garden subject. Sowing and Growing Instructions Sow indoors, February-June, 0.5cm (¼”) deep, in a tray of compost. Water well and place in a cold frame, unheated greenhouse, or on a warm kitchen windowsill. Keep moist. Seedlings usually appear in 21-42 days. Trans individually, when large enough to handle, to 7.5cm (3") pots. Always hold by a leaf, never by the stem. Gradually accustom young s to outside conditions (avoid frosts), before ing out, into well-drained soil in a sheltered spot, August-October, 40cm (16") apart. If s are large enough to trans outside in autumn, they are best protected with cloches through the winter. Alternatively, out, March-May, the following spring. Flowers: June-September, the following year.
