The author provides a good overview of the key themes and events that have shaped and continue to shape modern Brazil.Topics discussed include Brazilian politics, the abolition of slavery and the fight against poverty.I found the book to be easy to follow and felt that the author gave a very fair assessment of the country’s strengths and weaknesses.The timeline of important events at the end of the book is useful and the sources are very well referenced.I learnt a lot from this short volume.
