From Edgar Allen Poe to Kelly Link, MR James to Neil Gaiman, HH Munro to Audrey Niffenegger herself, Ghostly spans the whole history of the ghost story genre from gothic horror to the modern era. Each story is introduced by Audrey Niffenegger, with short original commentary and background on why she chose to include it. Also included is Niffenegger’s own story, “A Secret Life with Cats.” Perfect for the classic and contemporary ghost story aficionado, this haunting volume showcases the best of the best in the field—including Edgar Allan Poe, Kelly Link, Neil Gaiman, Edith Wharton, P.G. Wodehouse, Ray Bradbury, and so many more. “Audrey Niffenegger is a master of the supernatural…She knows a good horror story when she sees one. Ghostly is her collection of the best of the genre” ( Bustle ). This collection includes: “Pomegranate Seed” by Edith Wharton “Playmates by A.M.” Burrage “Laura” by H.H. Munro “Click Clack the Rattle Bag” by Neil Gaiman “Honeysuckle Cottage” by P.G. Wodehouse “The Beckoning Fair” One by Oliver Onions “The Black Cat” by Edgar Allen Poe “The July Ghost” by A.S. Byatt “The Mezzotint” by M.R. James “The Open Window” by H.H. Munro “The Pink House” by Rebecca Curtis “The Specialist’s Hat” by Kelly Link “They” by Rudyard Kipling “Tiny Ghosts” by Amy Giacalone “August 2026: There Will Come Soft Rains” by Ray Bradbury “Secret Life, With Cats” by Audrey Niffenegger Review: Love it ... good collection that i will re-read - Book arrived in great condition and, unexpectedly, in a public library book jacket. The book has a good mix of classic vs. contemporary, disturbing vs. romantic and scary vs. funny. I enjoyed ms. Ninnenger's commentaries bf each story as well as the pen and ink illustrations. Review: A spooktacular collection - If you enjoy ghost stories, you will very much appreciate this collection. Audrey Niffenegger compiled this treasury, and each story contains an illustration and introduction by her, which is enough to make me love the book right there. However, it's also a wonderful collection of ghost stories from a wide variety of authors, some more modern and some quite old. Favorites include Niffenegger's own story, "A Secret Life with Cats," the classic Edgar Allen Pie tale "The Black Cat," and the delightful and whimsical "Honeysuckle Cottage" by P.G. Wodehouse (so fun!). If you are familiar with Niffenegger's love of the macabre and personal tastes, you will be prepared for a few selections that are REALLY out there, and this collection contains them, and a few of them and others are stories I could do without. Overall, though, this is a really great collection and a beautiful book in general. I love it and am so glad to have it to add to my Niffenegger collection. ## Technical Specifications | Specification | Value | |---------------|-------| | Best Sellers Rank | #1,931,812 in Books ( See Top 100 in Books ) #892 in Horror Collections & Anthologies (Books) #1,303 in Ghost Fiction #4,106 in Short Stories Anthologies | | Customer Reviews | 4.2 out of 5 stars 230 Reviews | ## Images ![Ghostly: A Collection of Ghost Stories - Image 1](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/91uyKBDU0TL.jpg) ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Love it ... good collection that i will re-read *by A***E on September 22, 2016* Book arrived in great condition and, unexpectedly, in a public library book jacket. As I read this book it took me back to my childhood when my dad would spin tales of spooks.
