Eaton Tripp Lite TLP74RB Black Surge Protector Power Strip 7 Outlets

Generally speaking, Tripp Lite has always made a good solid product, at a good decent price—this one is no different. I like the fact that it's of a darker color. Most power bars are white, and stand out quite a bit, but this one being a dark gray, almost muddy brown is a welcoming alternative. Most furniture these days I think is darker in most homes, especially around the entertainment area, so this fits in well. I like that the plug end isn't too large and will fit into the socket while allowing a second one to also plug in. Some I've purchased in the past make it very difficult and press against each other while plugged in. The switch is also another thought through detail—it's a solid switch, and when you switch from on to off or vice versa, it actually fully switches over. Most of the white power bars I used to have, the switches were very shaky and felt like they only did a half turn towards the other side. The last socket is turned 90 degrees to the side, this is great for those really big plugs you might have—the ones that look more like a power pack, rather then an electrical plug. Finally as a surge protector, it's a really nice added bonus. I use this, among other fail-safes, to plug my media center, including my computer and TV into. Two of these seems to do the trick and so far I've never had any issues. I'm glad I got them as a safety net, we've been having a lot of thunderstorms lately, and knowing I've got my setup going though this, is just an added layer of reassurance.

This is just what you'd want from a power strip. It's nice and sturdy and feels well made. It has 7 spots to plug things in, which is nice, and the end one has a spot for a larger adapter so you don't have to cover up a second outlet when using one of the regular outlets on the strip. We have tons of storms here, and I always get really nervous about things getting zapped, which has never actually happened to me, but I worry anyway. I feel pretty reassured that this will keep my electronics safe. The only "issue" I have is that my house is old and all the wall outlets are two prongs so I have to use adapters to convert the 3 prong end into a 2 prong that will fit it. It's not a big deal because I'm used to it for lots of appliances, and I have plenty adapters on hand anyway. I just wonder if this compromises any of the safety the surge protector offers, but I don't think it does. So as of now, it's protected all my stuff through some storms, and I feel confident that it will continue to do so. I haven't tried mounting it, but that's definitely a plus if you're interested in that as well. It's a good price for a surge protector (which does more than just a normal power strip) so it's definitely worth the money.

Needed a power strip for my dorm desk setup and this one has been awesome. Seven outlets is way more than enough and having that one wider outlet at the end means I don't lose two spots every time I plug in a big adapter. It feels really solid and sturdy compared to the cheap ones you find at dollar stores. The surge protection is a nice peace of mind especially in older buildings where the wiring always seems a little sketchy.

This is the second Tripp product that I've purchased - three years ago I purchased this Tripp Lite Isobar 8 Outlet Surge Protector Power Strip after doing a fair amount of research and concluding that the Tripp products are generally better built and more effective than run-of-the-mill power strips. I have been using that 8 outlet protector for my computer equipment and I have just recently purchased this simpler and less expensive 7 outlet strip for use in the bedroom where I don't need it for protection from surges as much as I simply wanted a good quality switched power strip for multiple low amperage products. Note that Amazon has combined 9 different Tripp products on this same page, so the reviews posted here are for all of those products, mixed together. The power strip that I purchased has 6 outlets oriented so that the plugs can be inserted from the side, which will also allow for smaller power adaptors (power 'bricks') to fit, plus it has one outlet oriented differently at the bottom of the strip so that a large power adaptor can fit without blocking the other outlets. This works for my own situation and Tripp has a wide variety of other power strip styles with different spacing between outlets for use with multiple large power adaptors. This style also has one on/off switch that operates all of the outlets together, as well as an indicator light that will glow green as long as the protective circuit is functioning properly, both convenient features. The power cord is 4 ft long and heavy duty 14 gauge, and the surge rating is 1080 joules according to the box. However the power strip itself is not stamped with a surge rating which is either an inadvertent omission on the part of Tripp, or an indication that the protective rating is not actually 1080 joules as claimed. For my application this is not important but if I was going to rely on this to protect expensive equipment then I would question Tripp directly and ask for an explanation. The power strip is UL listed which is important - many Chinese manufactured power strips are not UL listed and the quality is variable. The UL listing does provide some assurance of quality for an electrical product. I'm not able to open up this power strip to investigate the quality of the internal wiring or soldering, because it is constructed with tamper proof screws to prevent it from being disassembled. Overall this relatively inexpensive power strip is exactly what I need for my particular application. If I have any other notable experiences as I use it over time, I'll return to this review and update it accordingly.

I bought 3 of these multi-receptacle power strips . This model has features I needed; the receptacles are turned 90 degrees , compared to many other power strips. The 4 foot long cord is convenient . The plug is a conventional, straight plug, as opposed to a flat, wall hugging plug. Also, this model features a lighted on/off switch and 15 amp. circuit breaker, and 3 wire surge protection with an indicator light to confirm that the surge protection is still working. The receptacles seem to hold plugs securely . While I cannot yet comment on long term performance, these power strips seem to be well made. And, the price was very reasonable as compared to several other similar power strips. Note that the " right angle" mentioned in the product description does not refer to the plug, but rather to the orientation of the receptacles. The plug is a conventional, straight plug , and not an angled or wall hugging design. My only criticism is that there is no good means provided to attach this power strip to a wall. The tiny nail head hangars on the back are poorly done.

Perfect fit under the kitchen cupboards above the sole outlet on that side of the sink. Right angle strips are the only way to go, and the bonus adapter friendly plug on the end is a nice extra. The cord was short enough that is isn't hanging down on the cabinet, the two feet seemed long at first, but I sort of looped it around and got it exactly where it needed to be. The black strip is invisible under the cabinets and is not yet full, even with all the junk plugged into it. There remains a free outlet on the wall that ignorant visitors can now use without unplugging a TV by mistake. It has places for screw mounting, but I used Industrial Strength Velcro Adhesive Strips to hold it securely to the Z-Brick covered wall. The price was also nice. I will look to get another of these for similar projects.

One can't be too safe when it comes to electricity. This old home may have the old aluminum wiring prevalent in the 70's so we protect our home with these strips at the point of use. That way, the strip hopefully will trip before the wiring heats up. Microwave, coffee maker and any heavy duty appliance gets one (refrigerator gets a different kind). So far, no problems and I see no reason not to buy one. Wait for a sale, and protect the family. This is not a cure all for poor home electrical wiring, but if you are a renter, or purchased a home and do not know the quality of your home wiring, it is an additional safety blanket for your loved ones. Plus it won't break the bank.

This is a reasonably priced surge strip with power receptacles with 90 degree orientation and one on the end that is perpendicular to the others for a wide power transformer. I do wish the outlet strips were spaced a little further apart for medium sized power warts that computer accessories seem to use so often. I like the black color because it doesn't stand out in the shadows under my desk. It would have been nice if the outlet strip plug was a flat connector instead of the standard straight-in plug. But that is a minor wish. It has a power on/off switch that is useful, too. However, after I bought this one, I found one on sale with individual switches for each 90 degree power outlet for substantially less money than this outlet strip.
