Complete Health

I tasked a very deep AI research bot to find a new food for my picky dog. He loves his current brand, but I care about his health. And this is what it found. Key Points Research suggests Wellness Complete Health may be better for your pitbull, especially with no soy or corn, aligning with your preferences. It seems likely that oatmeal, a key ingredient in Wellness, is safer than corn, offering better nutrition and fewer allergy risks. The evidence leans toward Wellness for high-quality ingredients and joint support, important for pitbulls. Why Wellness Stands Out Both your dog's old food and Wellness Complete Health are designed for adult dogs, including large breeds like pitbulls, with natural ingredients and joint health support. Given your preference for no soy or corn and your dog’s seasonal itchy ears, Wellness seems to be a better fit. It avoids these potential allergens and supports overall health, which is crucial for your dog’s needs. Expert and Customer Feedback Wellness Complete Health has a 5-star rating from Dog Food Advisor (Dog Food Advisor - Wellness Complete Health Review), compared to a 4-star rating for similar products like your dog's old food. It also has robust customer reviews, with 4.5/5 from 8,565 on Amazon, suggesting broad acceptance. Recommendation Given the higher expert rating and suitability for pitbulls, it seems likely that Wellness Complete Health, Chicken & Oatmeal Recipe, is the better choice. Consider your budget and consult your vet, especially with your dog’s ear issues, to ensure compatibility. Detailed Comparison of Dog Foods for Pitbulls with No Soy or Corn Preference This detailed note compares your dog's old food (previously Rachael Ray Nutrish Big Life Dry Dog Food, Savory Chicken, Barley & Veggies, 40 Pounds) and Wellness Complete Health Dry Dog Food (Chicken & Oatmeal Recipe, 26-Pound Bag) to determine the best option for your pitbull, considering your preference for no soy or corn, your dog’s seasonal itchy ears, and overall nutritional needs. Pitbulls, known for their muscular build and active lifestyle, require diets high in protein, moderate in fat, and supportive of joint health due to potential issues like hip and elbow dysplasia. Additionally, avoiding soy and corn can help reduce the risk of allergies or digestive issues, especially given your dog’s ear sensitivity. Background and Nutritional Needs Pitbulls benefit from high-protein diets (around 25-36% protein) and ingredients like glucosamine and chondroitin for joint support, as well as omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids for skin and coat health. Recent advice, as seen in discussions on Rover - Best Dog Foods for Pit Bulls, suggests grain-inclusive diets to avoid potential heart issues linked to grain-free formulas. Given your dog’s seasonal itchy ears, which may be allergy-related, avoiding common allergens like corn and soy is crucial, and oatmeal is often recommended for its digestibility and lower allergen risk compared to corn. Your dog's old food was formulated for large breeds, with descriptions emphasizing support for hip and joint health, beneficial for pitbulls. Customer reviews on platforms like Amazon and Walmart showed high satisfaction, with ratings of 4.6/5 from 739 reviews. The brand average for dry dog food from Pet Food Sherpa indicates a dry matter protein content of 28.42%, suggesting it may offer higher protein, crucial for muscular pitbulls. However, specific nutritional details for the Savory Chicken recipe were challenging to find, with mentions of real chicken as the first ingredient and fiber for satiety. Based on reviews of similar recipes (Dog Food Advisor - Rachael Ray Nutrish Review), corn gluten meal is often included, which conflicts with your no-corn preference and could exacerbate your dog’s seasonal ear issues if corn is an allergen. Soy is typically not a primary ingredient, which is a plus, but the potential corn inclusion is a significant drawback. Wellness Complete Health Wellness Complete Health, particularly the Chicken & Oatmeal recipe, is rated 5 stars by Dog Food Advisor (Dog Food Advisor - Wellness Complete Health Review), indicating high quality. It has a confirmed protein content of 24% as fed, translating to about 26.67% on a dry matter basis, with ingredients including glucosamine and chondroitin for joint support, as seen on Petco’s product page (Petco - Wellness Complete Health). Crucially, it explicitly avoids corn and soy, using oatmeal and barley as primary grains, aligning with your preference. Oatmeal is a whole grain packed with fiber, protein, and nutrients like iron and B vitamins, offering better nutrition and fewer allergy risks compared to corn, which is often a cheap filler and more likely to be genetically modified with higher pesticide exposure. Customer reviews are robust, with 4.5/5 from 8,565 on Amazon, suggesting broad acceptance. It’s specifically recommended for young pitbulls (1-3 years) in Rover - Best Dog Foods for Pit Bulls, aligning with pitbull nutritional needs. The ingredient list is comprehensive, including fruits and vegetables for additional nutrients, which may benefit overall health, especially for skin and coat issues like your dog’s itchy ears. Oatmeal vs. Corn: Safety and Quality Oatmeal is generally considered safer and better for dogs than corn, especially given your concerns about pesticides and quality. Corn is a common allergen, potentially triggering skin or ear issues, and is often used as a cheap filler with less nutritional value, more likely to be genetically modified and treated with heavier pesticide doses. Oatmeal, conversely, is less commonly genetically modified, often grown with fewer pesticides, and provides digestible fiber, protein, and nutrients, reducing allergy risks. While neither is guaranteed pesticide-free, oatmeal’s lower allergen potential and higher nutritional profile make it a safer choice, especially for your pitbull with seasonal ear sensitivity. Price and Value Consideration Your dog's old food offered better value at $1.60 per pound compared to Wellness at $2.31 per pound. However, given your no-soy, no-corn preference and your dog’s health needs, the higher cost of Wellness is justified by its superior expert rating, cleaner ingredient profile, and inclusion of joint-supporting ingredients like glucosamine, explicitly mentioned in the ingredients list. Customer Feedback and Suitability Both products have strong customer feedback, but Wellness’s larger review base (8,565 vs. 739) suggests broader testing and acceptance. Reviews of your dog's old food include some mentions of digestive issues for corn-containing recipes, reinforcing concerns for your dog’s ear sensitivity. Wellness’s recommendation in expert reviews for pitbulls, particularly for joint health and allergen avoidance, makes it a safer bet for long-term use, especially considering potential breed-specific and allergy-related health concerns. Conclusion and Recommendation Given the higher expert rating (5 stars vs. 4 stars), specific recommendation for pitbulls, and alignment with your no-soy, no-corn preference, Wellness Complete Health Dry Dog Food, Chicken & Oatmeal Recipe, is likely the better choice for your pitbull. It avoids corn and soy, uses oatmeal (safer than corn with better nutrition and lower allergen risk), and offers high-quality ingredients, joint support, and a 5-star expert rating. Your dog's old food is cost-effective but likely includes corn, posing a risk for allergen-sensitive pitbulls, especially with your dog’s seasonal itchy ears. Consider your budget, and consult your veterinarian for personalized advice, especially given your dog’s ear issues, to ensure compatibility and address any underlying allergies. CONCLUSION -------------------------------------- My dog didn't want to eat it at first, as goes with any different or new food, but a little drizzle sauce or small treats mixed in and he eats it. The transition from the old corn/soy food to this new oatmeal / non-soy dog food was abrupt (my fault) but his poops are fine and haven't suffered, everything seemed to have worked out. A few stinky farts at first but no diarrhea or food transition issues. Softer stool piles on poo pickup I've noticed, which is likely better for his health. I love my stinky dog and want the best dog food for him.

I’ve been feeding my dog Wellness Complete Health Dry Dog Food, and it’s been a great choice! My dog absolutely loves the taste and always finishes their bowl, which is a big plus. I’ve noticed improvements in their overall health—her coat is shinier, and her energy levels are fantastic. The safety of the product gives me peace of mind, as the ingredients are high-quality and free from harmful additives. The kibble is easy to break into smaller pieces when needed, making it versatile for dogs with different chewing needs. The size of the kibble is perfect for my medium-sized dog, and it’s just the right texture for her to enjoy. Overall, I’m really happy with this food and would highly recommend it to other dog owners looking for a nutritious and trustworthy option!"

This has been a great choice for my dogs as my one dog has gut issues and sensitive skin. He is doing so much better now.

Wellness pet food is the finest quality pet food available, in my opinion, and I am a long time holistic veterinarian who uses it for my own pet, and for other pets in the past. Wellness foods are wheat, corn, soy, additive and preservative free. They are ideal holistic nutrition for healthy pets as well as pets needing a restricted diet for food sensitivities of any kind, and never include potentially problematic ingredients. This is the case with my beloved rescue dog who as a puppy had to have such a specific restricted healthy diet that if she ate anything else she would be vomiting and having diarrhea for a week, needing fluid therapy. As much as I didn't like it, she had to be on constant medications and probiotics for her first couple years of life, before finally being healthy enough to be tapered off of these.. She initially was saved as a puppy from these repeated bouts of illness by Iams Prime Naturals and then Iams Sensitive Naturals, but when these became hard to find, after extensive research into nutrition and the available options, I found Wellness, and that has been what has kept her healthy and happy ever since. I liked the quality and standards of ingredients so much that I switched all my other pets including cats to Wellness as well. Wellness does offer grain free versions also, but in my opinion and that of most veterinarians, grain free foods for pets are a fad with no real nutritional or biological basis, anymore than the fad in people. Dogs and cats are not wild animals and even cats are not obligate carnivores who eat no other types of foods besides meats. There is simply no scientific basis for this unfortunate fad, and I don't believe these foods are as well balanced as the original formulations of a high quality top of the line holistic food like Wellness, which is tested and certified at every step of development and production for the health and well-being of the pets who will be fed this food. Sure, cheap pet food with corn and chicken by products are not healthy by any stretch of the imagination, but easily digested carbohydrates from healthy sources like barley and rice, and sometimes potato, are important for a well balanced diet for our pets and for the digestion and assimilation of all the good healthy nutrients in high quality foods like Wellness. I will mention one more thing - even though there is a "small breed" version of this food, and I have a 20 lb dog, I feed her the regular size kibble because the pieces of the "small breed" are so small they are smaller than most cat food kibble. Larger pieces involve some chewing which is essential for dental health. Very few dogs would be small enough to need kibble that size. I personally buy it to use as treats for my dog because it is easy to use and she loves it, and it is very hard to find treats that meet the strict standards of quality needed to keep her healthy. Also, she has a treat-dispensing ball toy which can be set to a smaller opening for smaller pieces, and the "small breed" kibble fits perfectly into that toy for maximum enjoyment. In summary, I can say that I as a holistic veterinarian prefer Wellness food to even proprietary foods sold only by veterinarians. I think the quality and the standards of their ingredients cannot be matched by any other food. I will always feed it to my dog,(but the regular kibble for her regular meals, not the "small breed"), for the rest of her life, and also to any other pets I acquire. And it's good to have the "small breed" tiny kibble available to use for treats and her toys. Holistic nutrition when it leads to healthy high quality food such as this cannot be beat. Cannot highly recommend enough!!

I bought Wellness Complete Health Chicken Recipe 30 pound bag on sale here for 9 dollars. I decided to try it mainly because of the price, to be honest, and had read that it was a pretty good food for dogs. Tyson seemed to like it rather well. It did not give him any digestive issues, no "poo" issues, in fact his gas was significantly reduced. He seems to stay fuller longer with Wellness, which is a plus. The problem we are having with it is that it does seem to add to his dandruff/dry skin. While it is not extreme, it is there and he is back to scratching/itching more often. A lot of foods do this to him. Well, I guess it is more factual to say that he has dry skin issues and certain foods will make it even worse. It is a shame too because this is one of few "good" foods that he actually likes the taste of and will eat pretty happily. Fish oil pills help a lot with the dandruff & dry skin, so we went back to supplementing with those while he is finishing this bag up. I can't afford to buy this food at the current price ($50!!) but on sale at least slightly cheaper, I would buy again and recommend it to anyone who can afford it. My dog seems happy and healthy eating it.

Value for the money is great!! My dog luvs it!!

I've been using this dog food for about 8 years now and I used the same brand's cat food for about 5 years before that. What sold me on it was when I started using the food for my cat. I had tried different major brands of cat food and they were find, I didn't really have a preference. When I tried Wellness brand after a few weeks on it, her fur got much nicer looking and her personality actually got better. I am convinced it was the food as there were no other changes in other aspects of her life and I don't know what else could cause this. She was like a new cat. When I got my dogs, I used Wellness based on that experience with my cat and they have done great. Nice healthy looking coats, and overall very healthy dogs. I did try their "Core" line, but switched back to regular as I suspect the Core food was the cause of her needing to have her anal sacs drained. Her bread is already very susceptible to this, and it's a fairly common problem with dogs. I add a scoop of canned pumpkin to my dogs food at breakfast now. Between doing that and moving back to the regular food, no more anal sac problems. As an added bonus, my dogs love the pumpkin.

I'm trying this on my dogs, one at it and the other not so much. It's a new shape for them.

For full disclosure I thought this was 15kg not lb but that's on me for not reading lol. As for the food, it's the only one that won't give our dog diarrhea and it has good ingredients in it. Our dog loves it, pomeranian.

Great food. Natural. Dog loves it

My dog didn't love this food unfortunately and would leave 1/4 of a bowl every time. Even when I gave her less. Very strange. The food has better ingredients than most. The manufacturer whoever has excellent customer service.

Only dog food l give my dogs. It's the best.
