In paintings such as Sunflowers , The Starry Night , and Self-Portrait with Bandaged Ear , we recognize an artist uniquely dexterous in the representation of texture and mood, light and place . Yet in his lifetime, van Gogh battled not only the disinterest of his contemporary audience but also devastating bouts of mental illness . His episodes of depression and anxiety would eventually claim his life, when, in 1890, he committed suicide shortly after his 37th birthday. This comprehensive study of Vincent van Gogh offers a complete catalogue of his 871 paintings , alongside writings and essays , charting the life and work of a master who continues to tower over art to this day. Review: You need this book. - This has been on my wish list for 4 years. I just couldn't justify the cost, but the price has only continued to increase. So far I love it, as I knew I would. I LOVE that there is a book mark. I didn't see it had a bookmark in the reviews so this is a an added bonus. I believe this book will be consumed in little bits over a long time and then re-read and re-read. The pages are quality paper. The print is a good size, and easy to read. And the pictures are glossy, lovely, some are large covering the whole page, showing the detail of the brush strokes. I look forward to reading what looks to be a well documented historical account of Van Gogh's life, there is great documentation of his family as well. I know I will sit for hours soaking up the artwork. I'm so glad I finally splurged and bought it. I'm thankful for the flash sale. Review: High fidelity pictures; great text - I think there is the same book by same publisher that is much smaller dimension wise but don’t get it. You need the size ## Technical Specifications | Specification | Value | |---------------|-------| | Best Sellers Rank | #28,684 in Books ( See Top 100 in Books ) #13 in European Art History #20 in Individual Artists' Books #24 in Art Movements (Books) | | Customer Reviews | 4.9 out of 5 stars 1,126 Reviews | ## Images ![Van Gogh.
