I tried using my kid's old school compass with a pencil, and that didn't work well, so I thought that I would finally spend a little more to get this scratch compass. Overall, I'm happy with it, it holds the line well, and I have straight lines now. The only 'complaint' I have is that the area where you adjust the length with a little wheel, is very tight like a spring, and I have to hold the arms together while I move the wheel until I get the correct length. It would be easier if it just moved the arms as I turned the wheel. Perhaps it's tight now and will loosen up with more use/adjustments?
