Handbook of Reloading Basics

Under my father's tutelage 47 years ago, I discharged a firearm for the first time. I grew up shooting and hunting with both shotguns and rifles. In the Army, I shot expert with M16, 1911A1 Pistol, grenades, and the M60 Tank. Along the way, I lost count of the number of different machine guns I fired. The point is I am not new to shooting, be it "sport" or combat.As an author myself, I appreciate a well-written book that delivers on the promises made on the back cover.This is one of those books.While I am far from new to shooting, I am totally new to reloading and "Handbook of Reloading Basics" is EXACTLY what I needed. It is written in language that I understand and explains BASIC concepts about reloading that I need to get started in the hobby.If you are already a reloader, this book is probably not for you. For those complaining it's too simplified, I suggest that if you don't need a beginner level book, then don't buy one! "Handbook" is clearly titled and described as a beginner's book.Mr. Sharpless and Mr. Sapp succeed wonderfully in creating a reference for someone like me who is new to the hobby. It's written well, clearly, in language not overly technical, and is a great place for me to get started on this fascinating hobby.Great work, Gentlemen!cma

The is a good book to pick up if you're new to reloading and trying to understand the basics of equipment and terminology. If you have some previous reloading knowledge you might move on to a more thorough text on the topic. The author is knowledgeable and conveys the topics in easy-to-understand language. Though, it does read like an advertisement for Redding reloading products as the author's favorite piece of equipment in just about every category is listed as a Redding product. Other brands are mentioned in round ups, but Redding takes center stage in every section. So, it was no surprise to me to read that the author is the Vice President for Redding. Not necessarily a bad thing, as I'm certain Redding makes a quality product. But be mindful that if you're looking for a book to help you decide on one of many brands before investing in equipment, this probably isn't the book for that ... unless you had your heart set on Redding. I would recommend this book to anyone, like me, who is looking to get a fundamental understanding of the process before getting started reloading.

Definitely a good primer to get started with reloading and a fast read. If you're only loading for rifle/pistol, then only the first half of the book really applies. The second half is on shot shell reloading. Although written by a guy from the Redding company, it really doesn't endorse their products and provides good information for the beginner.

Good beginners resource

Of the three basic reloading books I have purchased to learn how to reload, this is the only one that actually takes you through the process step by step without assuming any prior knowledge. The author uses a writing style that is very easy to follow. I was finally able to successfully reload my first set of casings with the confidence that they would perform safely and accurately. If you want to learn the skill of reloading your own ammunition, BUY THIS BOOK!
