Is the H9 a newer version than the H10?

The Polar H9 is the latest addition to the selection of heart rate sensors from Polar. It was designed as a more cost effective entry to the world of heart rate training. It differs from the H10 in that it does not have the internal memory of the H10 and is packaged with a different style of chest strap from the H10. - MikePolarUSA

Is this compatible with Apple Watch series 5?

Yes, the Polar H9 is compatible with the series 5 Apple Watch. - MikePolarUSA

when using the h9, does the app on my phone save the data?

Hi Jim, during training the file is saved locally and then uploaded to your Flow account which uses cloud storage to avoid slowing down your phones performance. If you want to keep a history of your Training Sessions please create an account after installing the Polar Beat application. If an account is not created the Training Sessions stored in Polar Beat will eventually be deleted.

Can you check your heart rate between laps swimming?

The H9 will need to be paired to a compatible watch that receives via the 5 kHz coded frequency (such as the Polar A300 or V800). - MikePolarUSA
