Review: Add a Art cleanboxpro - if you're thinking about using this amp or any Crown XLS or XLI in a home theater system. do extensive research before buying. it will cost you more than you think. consumer audio is -10-DB. while pro audio is plus 14 dbu. this amp will never work properly without a matchbox. since the voltage from your HT receiver is lower than the actual requirement of a pro amp. which includes the DSP in the amp. this amp can make a great subwoofer amp. the fact that this amp has RCA inputs is confusing. even though you can change the input sensitivity to .775. the DSP will never work properly unless your HT already has XLR outputs. ( very few do) I'm using a Yamaha RX-A6A. which does have XLR inputs + outputs.. but if you're using it as a subwoofer amp you should not use the XLR outputs from the receiver. because your receiver will act differently since it thinks you're using an external amp. if want to use it as a "full range amp" then you can connect directly to your XLR outputs. it has more than enough power to drive four 10-inch subs. depending on your system configuration make sure you select the proper ohm load to get the most out of the Crown amp. it is a solid amp. and won't rob your electric bill. make sure that your electric socket has at least 4-5 amps if you configure your speakers correctly. I have 3 1002s and one 1502 that I use to power a 5.4.4 Atmos setup and 8 outdoor speakers. All are mounted in an in-wall rack system. The Crowns push out what they claim and they do so effortlessly. While there is a very quiet "hiss" right next to the indoor speakers, it's low enough volume that you can only hear it within 2' of the speakers when no sound is emitted. At one point, I accidentally hooked up 2 of my 18" subs in parallel and connected them to the XLS1502 in bridge mode, thus giving it a 2 ohm load in bridge. It's not rated for this, as it's only supposed to handle down to 4 ohms when bridged, but this amp had ZERO complaints for about 9 months, playing loud and hard. Did not let me down. *by B***U on October 31, 2016* I've wanted to try one of these for years. All I wanted was an amplifier I could wire like a car audio amp to give me some flexibility in a simple two channel home audio set up. Right now it's just driving a 12" 2 ohm duel voice coil sub. There is no piece of home audio equipment you can buy (reasonably) that can continuously drive a 2 ohm load. It effortlessly drives the sub at any volume and never sounds taxed in the least. I do have the gains turned up higher than I thought, but it could have more to do with the consumer grade components that are hooked to it than the output of this unit. I haven't had time to pull out components yet to really play with this, so it's currently paired to an old kenwood pre-amp - rolls mini crossover - highs to a denon 120w/ch surround receiver ran as a simple 4 ch amp bi wired to a pair of kef q100's - lows to crown and sub. It's a little busy, so it's hard to know if the higher gains are needed because the sub needs the power or if the input signal is lower than it should be. Regardless, it would be tough to buy a better sounding set up for less than a couple grand. The flexibility and clean power make this an easy 5 star item for me.
