When he got it, he was about 15 months old and he played with it more as a toy truck that he would drive around. Now at 18 months, he is more interested in the pictures and having me read the book or tell him about what is happening in the pictures. It is very sturdy and a perfect size for toddlers. The story line is about all you need for a one year old. Most of the trucks on our street pick up the cans and this book does not depict that, but the other day I think they were picking up yard clippings and when the truck came they loaded the contents of the garbage can into the truck by hand just like in the book. I am a retired early childhood educator, so when I saw it was a Scholastic book, I knew i probably would not be disappointed. It was one of his first words (garrrrrh-shruh)! When this book popped up as a suggested product, I had to get it. My mommy instincts were right—it’s a HIT with my little guy! The morning it arrived, he was eating breakfast in his highchair. He saw the book from across the room and immediately recognized it as a “garrrrrh-shruh” and outstretched his arms. Since then, he’s been carrying this little book around, “driving” it on tables and the floor, and offering it when we have guests over. The story is short and cute, the illustrations are lovely with tons of little details on each page (we like to count the trees), and the educational quality is good.
