The charcoal is consistent high quality and these pencils can be sharpened in both a hand held sharpener and an electric sharpener - if you go slow. The various grades are helpful and the value is high given the cost. I’ve bought plenty of charcoal pencils hoping they would perform - most disappoint - these are an exception!

**Q: Are these pencils made with compressed or vine charcoal?  How easy are the marks to erase?**

**Q: Can these be sharped with a pencil sharper?**
A: I just recently bought the Jarlink Electric Sharpener on Amazon and it is the first one that I think does a good job on charcoal pencils.  It will sharpen them not quite so sharp so they don't break.  But I was not really happy with this set of pencils.  They aren't anywhere close to as dark as the other brands I have.

A fine product. I needed a pencil that I could paint over and not show through as a regular lead pencil does. These work fine, no bleed through, the lines are absorbed by the paint.
