Review: Because Some Classic Keyboards Deserve to Live On - I have an old mechanical keyboard that I refuse to give up. The problem is that it speaks PS/2, and my current machine speaks only USB. Enter this cable, which turns a polite but firm incompatibility into a non-issue. The converter handles both the keyboard and mouse PS/2 ports simultaneously via a single USB connection on the host side. The color coding on the PS/2 ends follows the standard convention (purple for keyboard, green for mouse), so there is no guessing. It is an active conversion with a built-in IC chip, which matters because passive adapters frequently fail with keyboards that require actual PS/2 signaling rather than a simple passive wiring remap. Plug it in, and it just works. No driver installation, no configuration, no reboot ritual. Compatible with Windows, Linux, and also plays nicely with the PS/2 ports on KVM switches, which is a less common use case but a genuinely useful one. The only quirk worth mentioning is that occasionally and very rarely a keypress may seem to hang, but in practice this is uncommon enough that it has never been a real issue. If you are trying to breathe new life into a beloved old peripheral or need PS/2 support for a KVM setup, this cable delivers exactly what it promises at a price that is basically a rounding error.
Review: Works great, with two caveats. - I have a 1980s-era IMB mechanical key keyboard with a PS/2 plug. This little adapter seems to be working fine, without any missed keypresses or unwanted keypress repeats. Two remarks, though: 1) The USB plug is fatter than I'm used to seeing, and so may not fit next to other (normal width, perfectly flat) USB plugs. You will have to find an unused USB port with nothing next to it. If you don't have one, then order a short generic USB extension cable at the same time you order this adapter and you'll be able to plug it into any available USB port. 2) The PS/2 sockets are a very tight fit. Be patient, look closely, align the cable's keytab with the socket's keytab hole EXACTLY, and push hard. The plug will suddenly snap into the socket. It's a good, secure mate. 5 stars, highly recommended as long as you prepare for the above two oddities.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: How would u convert this. Do I buy a wireless mouse**
A: No you don't need a wireless mouse. This adapter enables you to connect a ps2 mouse or a ps2 keyboard (or both) to a USB port on your computer. To do this, you plug the ps2 connector on your mouse or keyboard (or both) into the ps2 connector (s) on the adapter and then connect the USB plug on the adapter to a USB port on your computer. Mice and keyboards these days are either wireless or USB so you only need this adapter if you have an older ps2 mouse or keyboard that you want to connect to your computer. I had to buy this adapter when I built a new computer recently so that I could get into the BIOS during the Power on Self Test (POST), which requires that you use the keyboard F2 or Delete keys during the POST. I have a wireless keyboard, which is not enabled until after the POST is completed; USB ports are enabled during POST but I don't have a USB keyboard so I had to use an old ps2 keyboard and connect it to a USB port on the computer, using the adapter, so that the keyboard was enabled during the POST. I hope this explanation helps.

**Q: How does this handle multiple simultaneous key presses? When gaming, I need to hold some keys down while pressing others.**
A: I don't see any downside to the connection with this adapter. My device works the same as always with no loss of performance.

**Q: will this work with an older microsoft keyboard?**
A: Of course that's ok. But ensure that your keyboard is in good condition.

**Q: Would this work to adapt a ps2 keyboard to work on an Xbox with usb?**
A: I have no experience using this converter with the XBOX, but it worked well connecting a PS2 mouse to a USB mouse port on a PC.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A true converter - works on macOS with IBM Model M keyboard
*by S***A on October 29, 2016*

USB to PS/2 Keyboard / Mouse splitters are definitely NOT all created equal. Most are merely plug adapters and not true converters. And of course the vast majority are all simply generically-branded so they are hard to research and have virtually no driver support. This becomes even more of a challenge if you are wanting to use this on a macOS. After quite a bit of research I concluded that this particular unit would indeed work on a Mac. Since there are few brand names I mostly had to go by the picture, and the long (2-inch) thick part on the USB end was indicative of this being an actual converter which is what I needed to get my IBM Model M working on my Macbook. Sometimes it does glitch out and I have to tap the ALT key (mapped to the mac command-key) a few times, but this is pretty rare. TIP: For my 20+ year old Model M keyboard I remapped ALT to command, CTRL to option, and CAPS LOCK to control (very rarely used by anything on the mac), as well as PAUSE and SCROLL LOCK to be brightness down and up. This was much cheaper than buying a modern Mac-compatible Model M-style clicky keyboard from Unicomp ($120+) and I would definitely recommend this adapter over all other generic-branded ones. For PC/Windows users, you could definitely get away with a cheaper-made adapter, but for the price I would get this real converter and know that you have something that will be useful on a variety of computers. I had a couple non-brand and a logitech USB-PS2 adapter, and none of them worked at all for macOS. Even if you don't care about Mac, I've had plenty of USB-PS2 adapters over the years, and sometimes they don't even work on particular makes/models of PCs!!!, so getting a REAL converter like this is just smart.
