Enter the Fluance RT82. I did a lot of research before deciding on the RT82. Great decision! This is a superb choice for someone entering (or reentering) the vinyl world. As the entry point to Fluance's Reference line of turntables, the RT82 has the same motor, plinth, tonearm, and the internals of their higher end RT85. It's silent, stable, and well engineered. And beautiful. The RT82's cartridge is an Ortofon OM10, an excellent midrange one with a rich sound and light set on the record. The steel platter gives nice weight and stability; the RT82 comes with a quality rubber mat that grips the record and minimizes noise and static. I mention the cartridge, platter, and mat, because you can upgrade those later if you wish. If you do that, you have the highest end RT85! I don't plan on doing that as I like the sound and performance of the RT82 right out of the box, but it's nice to have an upgrade path. Set up was relatively easy. You do have to place the plater, hook up the belt, install the cartridge head, and balance the tonearm. That's standard for a higher end turntable. I've done this sort of set up before and this was the easiest that I remember. Fluance has simple to read and follow instructions; lots of videos to do it are on YouTube. Review: Unbelievable Value, My TT For Life! - I bought this as an upgrade from my Audio-Technica LP70X, which was my first turntable. This was my first foray into a more manual experience, and I am so incredibly glad I chose this one. Setup was easy, mostly because I watched a ton of videos on this before the thing even arrived, but the instructions were still easy to follow. I had it up and running in about 15 minutes. Now, for my system, I’m running this through a Fluance Phono Preamp and into a Yamaha RXV4A driving a pair of Kanto YU 5.25 speakers. The Fluance Preamp was a new addition to replace a cheaper Fosi Audio preamp. I have the Yamaha lightly equalized just to bring down the lows a bit because the Kantos are fairly bass heavy in lower volumes. I posted a short video to the turntables subreddit and got a lot of both praise in my choice and recommendations for further upgrades. Further upgrades? FURTHER UPGRADES? I can’t imagine upgrading any further. I’m so unbelievably satisfied with this setup and the sound of this turntable that I can’t honestly imagine it sounding any better. The heft and quality of the turntable are beyond what I expected, the autostop feature is great for my ADHD brain because I like to clean while my record is playing and I’ll get so focused I forget to stop the record when the music ends, and the simplicity of the Fluance preamp makes it basically plug and play. The bamboo is beautiful, but it’s hard to match with speakers and furniture. I still prefer the warmth of the wood to a black or white plinth, so I’m quite happy with it. Fluance has earned a customer for life in me. I would have bought their speakers but for the lengthy delivery estimate and the fact that my Kantos sound phenomenal as they are. Now, why this one over the RT81+ or elite or even the RT83? Because the motor and to near mate the same on this as the RT83 and 84, and due to the design, this can be upgraded to be exactly the same spec as the RT85 on a piecemeal basis. For $300, this thing is a steal. It punches so far above its price point that I really don’t know how Fluance turns a profit. I’m one happy audiophile. If you get active speakers you do not need a receiver. Active speakers would need to be plugged into an outlet. Passive speakers plug into an amp or receiver. **Q: If i add an ortofon red to this rt82 then it will be exactly the same as an rt83. is that correct? no other differences at all?** A: The Ortophon OM 10 cartridge turns out to be pretty good. I am not sure you will be able to tell the difference upgrading to the RED. There are other cartridges in the $150 to $200 range that would be a better choice. Talk to the experts and given the genre of music you like get some recommendations. **Q: Does it have Bluetooth capabilities?** A: No this is abasic high quality turntable it does not have a pre amp or Bluetooth capability. Appears to be well built. OM10 cartridge has a nice warm sound with decent bass and can easily be upgraded. Tonearm might not be high end but works well and does have adjustable weight plus a removable headshell. Piano white finish looks good and is smooth and shiny. Auto stop works on most of the LP's I've tried. I have an inexpensive Sony STRDH190 receiver with Sony SSCS5 bookshelf speakers and the Fluance plays well with this system. Sounds even better with my Sennheiser HD599 headphones plugged into the amp.
