Review: Best Sonic game I've played in 10 years - Console Sonic games have always been notorious for being horrible. Sonic Colors changes that. Presentation of the game is superb. Level selection is reminiscent of Super Mario Galaxy. It's easy to navigate and select worlds and levels. All without having to deal with horrible hub worlds that plagued all the past 3D Sonic games. The story is very light and not very serious. But the way it's portrayed is like that of a classic Sonic game. You'll also find some actual funny humor in the game. Though that's because the writing is coming from writers of Happy Tree Friends and Madworld. The graphics are superb. Some of the best looking for the Wii. Everything is vibrant, colorful and very nice to look at. Now music in this game has got to be one of my favorite Sonic soundtracks ever. You can tell they put a lot of effort into the musical score. Most of the tracks are very catchy and fitting to their level. Even the level selection music for Starlight Carnival is over a minute in a half of original music that doesn't repeat (and not to mention very catchy). The voice acting is also wonderful. The voices were replaced with more professional actors, so now the dialogue sounds much better. Gameplay is the most important part about this game, and the one thing everyone was worried about. I have to say it's the most fun I've had with a Sonic game in over a decade. The controls take a few minutes to get used to, but they end up feeling very tight and fun. Way better than any other 3D Sonic game. It's classic 2D platforming with some 3D styled platforming. Gameplay also stays fresh with all of the Wisp abilities they've introduced into the game. It never gets old and always feels fun to play. One thing that you need to watch out for is difficulty. It really ramps up later in the game and you'll need to be prepared for it. Since they throw in some cheap deaths in certain spots. But that shouldn't hinder your intention of buying the game. Sonic Colors is a very fun game. One of the best Sonic games I've played. Way better than Sonic 4: Episode 1 was. If you've been ditching Sonic for the last 10 years then you don't know what you're missing if you skip this game out. I loved the simplicity of the original Sonic games. They were simple, easy to play, but not EASY. meaning anyone could learn, but there was a sense of challenge. This one looked a little more complex than the originals, more like Sonic Unleashed or one of the other ones that came out on the Wii. But after many great reviews, I gave it a shot. I am very glad i did. The game is really fun to play. And just like the originals, it is easy to learn and pick up, but is challenging throughout. I've had fun playing this game so far and I'm sure I will continue to do so. I haven't gotten all that far yet, so I can't comment on the ENTIRE game from start to finish, but I have advanced through a few levels. Let's start off with the pro's: 1)There are amazing graphics. Sometimes you wish the game would just stop playing and you could sit back and look at every detail. The best graphics are in Starlight carnival, which is my favorite world by far. The graphics are simply amazing. Sometimes the game takes over for you at some points and instead of concentrating on the controller you can concentrate on the graphics. One thing that stinks about the graphics is that there are no turtles dancing in the background. But, other than that, the graphics are great. 2)The next thing that is great is the game play. There are controls that make sense. And, if you are a GameCube fan like me, than if you have a GameCube controller you can play with that, too. You can also play with a classic controller, but I think playing with either a nunchuk or by holding the remote sideways. Another cool thing about the game play is the wisps. Different wisps give you different powers. My favorite wisp is the green one which allows you to hover. At the end of each act you will get ranked on how well you did it. The best rank is "S" and the worst is "D". 3)The next good thing is the Sonic Simulator, which allows you and a friend to play together in special levels. What is cool about this is that you can combine wisps with another person to make a totally different power. The way to get these special levels is by collecting red coins in the other levels. The first time you collect enough you will get an option of playing as your Mii. The Miis look pretty stupid though because they are dressed like Sonic. 4)The final Pro is the 3D. The 3D is cool. While you are in 3D then at times you can quick step or drift. A lot of the game is in 3D but some parts are 2D. I like the 3D better because there are more things you can do. But when switching to 2D from 3D the game puts a natural shift to it. The Cons go as following: 1)You do not have the option of playing as Tails even though he is in the game. You should also have the option of playing as turtles. 2)Sometimes in boss battles Sonic is shown too small so it is hard to see what to do and where you are. 3)Some wisps are uncontrollable. 4)There is a bad storyline. The storyline is childish and it makes you suspend your disbelief. 5)The music gets annoying because it is very repetitive. All in all this game is worth getting for the price.
