Review: Amazing UHD Player - Over the years, like many, I made the change away from physical media to only buying digital movies and TV shows that I stream. I'd debated for a long time about getting back into physical media, primarily for the best video and audio quality you can get at home. After a ton of research, this is the player I decided to get. Primarily because Panasonic UHD players work the best with Samsung TVs due the feature set the players offer. This player has not disappointed! It was very easy to get wired into my TV and soundbar, leveraging two HDMI cords. It did not come with HDMI cables, so make sure you pick up two high speed ones made for 4K content. Once wired in the player seemed to detect what I was outputting to and changed settings to match my equipment. However, I'd recommend feeding in all the models of TV, sound equipment, and this player into some kind of AI. There were very specific settings I had to change across all my devices to get the best picture and primarily audio quality. Before changing these settings, especially with audio it did not sounds very good, but thankfully it does now. To date I've probably watched 4 - 5 UHD movies and the quality over streaming these same movies is very noticeable. Not just with the video quality, but audio sounds so much better. One of the movies I watched changes aspect ratio, which streaming movies does not do and it was a cool experience. I've also watched a couple Blu-ray movies which this player increases the quality of and they look very good. From research I did, even Blu-ray movies play at a better quality that what you can stream. Overall I'm extremely happy with this purchase. It's just a very large player. I think it's potentially one of the largest UHD players on the market. Would highly recommend measuring the space you plan to place it by your TV, as it barely fits in our TV cabinet. Otherwise, if you are in the market to get into physical media, this is a great player.

**Q: the panasonic dp-ub9000 hdr 4k uhd blu-ray player which you sale, is bd zone free abc y dvd zone free 012345678, or is only bd zone a and dvd zone 1?**
A: It is set to Blu-ray zone A and DVD region 1.  Says so on the box.  I just tonight bought a DP-UB820 from a local USA big name retailer.  They were gracious enough to let me test a Doctor Who region free 50i Blu-ray purchased from the UK in the player to make sure it played.  That sold me.  Getting it home, it would not play R2 DVDs at all (gives a region error) and would just stop playing zone B Blu-rays.  These were the Studio Canal Blu-rays of Dr. Who and the Daleks and Dalek Invassion Earth 2150 AF.

After reading C Jay's post, I tried his hack on the Dalek Blu-rays and it worked with one modification.  In their case, I waited for the front display to show "STOP".  Then in pressed "Top Menu" twice like he said and, in a few seconds, the front menu screen appeared.  The hack did not work for the R2 DVDs after trying several variations of C Jay hack.

But, you know how you sometimes have to sit through many screens of annoying logos until the main menu appears?  C Jay's hack works for that on region A Blu-rays!  Simply let the first screen appear and press stop and let the disc stop spinning.  Then press "Top Menu" twice and after a few seconds, the main menu appears!!!

**Q: Does this play sacd discs?**
A: No, it does not.

**Q: Can this play dvd-a or dvd-audio discs?**
A: DVD-Audio discs should have Dolby tracks that are playable on nearly all DVD-Video players. The "nearly" is probably included in claims in case a Beavis-and-Butthead-managed factory sets up shop. It's the Meridian Lossless Packing that's playable on high-end players.

Some discs also have DTS tracks.

I would be very surprised if they don't play at all. They may not sound much better than 5.1-channel, 16-bit with 48-kHz sampling, but they should play.

If one of you finds that they don't, please let me know.

Value, the Panasonic UB820 is one of the best Blu-ray players to buy today. Priced at around $400 this really is a well-featured and high-performing player for the price. You can find this player on sale for $350 (during December) to $380 at times. Thanks to some personal history with this player, I can also confirm this will work until it can’t give anymore; it’s a solid investment. But if you don't have a Dolby Vision TV (adds the Best vivid colors and contrast), then I'd probably get the Panasonic UB420 player. Best settings setup IMO for the Panasonic UB820, UB420, and other models. This is for your 4K TV to get the best output for your 4K movies and Blu Ray Discs. 1. Turn on your player with No Disc inside. Then goto "setup", and then "player settings". 2. Go into "HDMI" settings, and "Resolution" set "4K" to "4K/60p(4:4:4)" 3. Now back out and go into "Advanced Settings", and select "Color Mode" and change to "YCbCr (4:4:4)" 4. Back out and go into "HDR TV Type" and select your TV type. Best TVs will be "OLED" 5. Now go back the main menu "player setting and select "Audio" and select "Digital Audio Output" and select "BD-Video Secondary Audio" to "Off". 6. Now put a 4k Disc in and play the movie. Now once the movie is playing hit "Video Setting" on your Remote. Then select "Optimum HDR Adjustment" and select "HDR Optimizer" to "On". That's it now you'll have the best possible setting IMO.
