I underestimated the length of the HANDLES. Obviously, the longer the handles are, the shorter the scroll BETWEEN the handles is. So I was expecting the SCROLL to be maybe 2-3 inches more in height. (I did read the reviews saying the scroll is about 13 inches, but I didn't actually measure that out.) I was looking for a scroll that would be "full size" for kids around 7 years old to carry, which would mean it would be slightly uncomfortably big for kids around 4 years old. A 4-year old would find this scroll perfectly comfortable--which means it will probably feel a bit small for the 6-10 year olds. This is the TR3 model. For kids in that age group, the 23-inch TR4 probably would be better. The kids haven't seen them yet and I'm really looking forward to seeing their reaction. Although our congregation has three regular Torah scrolls, these are the first with rimonim and a breastplate (although, of course, they're not *real* silver)! ------ Regarding kids carrying them around on Simchat Torah: An adult needs to go with the kids. A kid will be hesitant to receive the scroll and has to be "prompted" by the adult to take it. Then the kid will hold on to it--and have to be "prompted" to give it to the next kid.
