The Dirt Devil is so light I have no problem using it. It does indeed have a chemical odor emitting during use, as other posters have mentioned. I will off-gas in time. Meanwhile, I use with ventilation. Review: I LOVE this vac on so many levels I'm getting a second!! - This vac is so perfect for us. We needed a light weight and easy vac as we had just put wood floors down in 60% of the house and dragging the Dyson out with a floor attachment was driving me crazy several times a day. We got this one and it was light weight and easy to use, so much so my 5 and 4 year old insisted on giving it a try, since then they ask every day if they can tidy up the toys and vacuum the floor, of course I have no problem with this at all. In fact we are getting a second so that they can both have one and we don't have arguments over who gets to use it first. Even my 1 year old loves to bring it out and try and tidy up. We vacuum at least once a day as a lot of dirt gets tracked in and I think my husband and I have only had to use it about 5 times in the last month, every time I get it out to use it my kids come running in and ask to use it instead, we have had to divide the house so one gets to do the living room and hallway and the other gets to do the kitchen, the added bonus is they pick everything up and tidy up all the toys and anything else before they can start!!! It picks up great, we have kittens who make a mess outside their litter box with walking bits of kitty litter out and it picks that up no problem, picks up dirt/mud, leaves, straw, any small items that have been tracked in from outside, dog and cat hair by the handfuls. Unlike other reviewers I have not had a problem with it clogging too fast, my long haired dog has been molting terribly and this picks it up fine, when I empty it the filter is covered in dog hair but I have not noticed any problems with suction. A down side I have found with it is the cord is too short, I can barely reach the other side of the room with it in a 19' room, I might have to eventually add to the cords but then I think it might not wrap up on the handle. The other problem came when I tried to vacuum up hair after I had cut my son's, it did seem to suck it up ok and then I noticed it was not working right on the regular stuff, it would keep leaving a little pile of dust when I turned it off, I turned it off and looked and the hair had got clumped and stuck in the floor attachment where it goes up into the machine. I tried to get it all out but due to the angle I ended up having to use a screwdriver and undo the 4 screws and take it apart to get the hair out then put it back together. This was very easy and only took about 10 mins to do but was a pain. Finally it does not do carpet very well at all. We got an area rug and it was able to pick up the dirt but not the hairs at all, not surprising as it has to bristles, I had to bring the Dyson out to clean that. The Dirt Devil is so light I have no problem using it. It does indeed have a chemical odor emitting during use, as other posters have mentioned. I will off-gas in time. Meanwhile, I use with ventilation. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I LOVE this vac on so many levels I'm getting a second!! *by S***E on July 22, 2011* This vac is so perfect for us. We needed a light weight and easy vac as we had just put wood floors down in 60% of the house and dragging the Dyson out with a floor attachment was driving me crazy several times a day. We got this one and it was light weight and easy to use, so much so my 5 and 4 year old insisted on giving it a try, since then they ask every day if they can tidy up the toys and vacuum the floor, of course I have no problem with this at all. In fact we are getting a second so that they can both have one and we don't have arguments over who gets to use it first. Even my 1 year old loves to bring it out and try and tidy up. We vacuum at least once a day as a lot of dirt gets tracked in and I think my husband and I have only had to use it about 5 times in the last month, every time I get it out to use it my kids come running in and ask to use it instead, we have had to divide the house so one gets to do the living room and hallway and the other gets to do the kitchen, the added bonus is they pick everything up and tidy up all the toys and anything else before they can start!!! It picks up great, we have kittens who make a mess outside their litter box with walking bits of kitty litter out and it picks that up no problem, picks up dirt/mud, leaves, straw, any small items that have been tracked in from outside, dog and cat hair by the handfuls. Unlike other reviewers I have not had a problem with it clogging too fast, my long haired dog has been molting terribly and this picks it up fine, when I empty it the filter is covered in dog hair but I have not noticed any problems with suction. A down side I have found with it is the cord is too short, I can barely reach the other side of the room with it in a 19' room, I might have to eventually add to the cords but then I think it might not wrap up on the handle. The other problem came when I tried to vacuum up hair after I had cut my son's, it did seem to suck it up ok and then I noticed it was not working right on the regular stuff, it would keep leaving a little pile of dust when I turned it off, I turned it off and looked and the hair had got clumped and stuck in the floor attachment where it goes up into the machine. I tried to get it all out but due to the angle I ended up having to use a screwdriver and undo the 4 screws and take it apart to get the hair out then put it back together. This was very easy and only took about 10 mins to do but was a pain. Finally it does not do carpet very well at all. We got an area rug and it was able to pick up the dirt but not the hairs at all, not surprising as it has to bristles, I had to bring the Dyson out to clean that. Again it is a great little vacuum and probably about as expensive as the toy vacuums we were looking at for the kids but this one will actually keep your house clean. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Mediocre vacuum made good by its price. *by T***S on June 3, 2014* I think this is a pretty good example of a four-star product. What makes it four-star you ask? That's actually a really easy question to answer: price. When we received this, I wasn't really sure what I expected out of $20 vacuum. My girlfriend had ordered it and kept telling me it has really good reviews, and it was only $20. I thought, $20? Sold! As long as it does a minimum of cleaning I'm cool with that. We received it from FedEx and it was literally in the dirt devil box. It looked thinner and smaller than what we had imagined, and when we took it out we realized it was basically a very cheap Dustbuster with a pole you could attach to it and an attachment to make it a floor cleaner. Underwhelming. But hey, does it clean? The answer to that question is: I guess so. It seemed to do just fine sucking up obvious stuff on top of the carpet, and I guess it sucks up some stuff on the wooden floors too. I didn't exactly go sprinkling coffee all over to experiment with, but overall it seems to do a decent job of picking stuff up. The negatives: this thing is like a toy vacuum. But seriously, you could get us to a little child so they could play house. I'm 6 foot and my girlfriend is 5 foot seven, and we both have to hunch over like the hunchback of Notre Dame in order to use it. Kind of killer on the back. I also don't really know how well the floor attachment works. It basically just goes into the Dustbuster hole, and it's supposed to make it suck up from the sides of the attachment too. I don't think it really does, so you're pretty much vacuuming the floor with a Dustbuster. Overall it's not a great vacuum, and I wouldn't use it for heavy-duty cleaning, but for our small apartment and for $20… Yeah I'm happy with it. Would I buy it again? If I was real tight on money, and I didn't feel I need to clean a ton of things, sure. If I wanted a vacuum that does a great job cleaning? Probably not. P. s.
