Motoparty Motorcycle Windshield Extension

I installed the Windshield Extension the night before a 200-mile ride, so it was very much a real-world test right out of the gate. The ride included sustained highway speeds with steady 20 mph winds, followed by about 20 miles of off-pavement riding on a hard-packed but noticeably bumpy road. The tilt mechanism never slipped. I ran it up for pavement and down for off-pavement, and it stayed exactly where I set it the entire time. That was honestly my biggest concern going in, and it turned out to be a non-issue. For such a small piece of plastic, it deflects a surprising amount of wind away from the helmet visor. The reduction in wind pressure and turbulence was immediately noticeable at highway speed, not so much with the 20 mph crosswinds. The photos show the extension mounted and in use during that ride. A couple of them were taken at the “Big Chief” gas station—better known as the “Four Corners Gas” stop from Season 3, Episode 4—which made for a good excuse to document the setup mid-ride. If you’re on the fence because it looks small or “too simple” to work, don’t be. This thing punches well above its weight, installs easily, almost invisible when riding and stays put even when conditions aren’t friendly.

So I'll tell you that for the money that you pay, this is an excellent alternative to the more expensive branded ones. However, I'll also tell you that for what you pay, you shouldn't expect superb quality and build materials. Does it work well as designed to defect wind in an adjustable fashion? Yes, absolutely. I've installed it on my 16' FJR just for a little more height on the touring screen that I have and it definitely works. Was easy to install and stays put. I'll try to break it down into a list of pros and cons. Pros: -Very affordable -Easy to install -Easily adjustable -Works well at deflecting wind -Easy to see through -Has stayed put through high speeds and for more than 1000 miles already. Cons: -The first one I got was definitely off-centered and nothing I did would get it to sit on the stock screen level, that was easily remedied by contacting amazon and they sent out a replacement in a snap. -It's made from a PlexiGlass material and you'll notice it immediately when you take it out and hold it up next to your actual windscreen -The directions are included but aren't the clearest. I can see someone less mechanically inclined struggling a bit -It's 80% impossible to see through it when it gets wet, I think it's due to the fact that it's that weird plexiglass material - It gets dirty in a really strange way, like not like the windscreen so often it's harder to see through and you'll need to clean it more - I think it has some weird components or film on it because after I use my microfiber to clean it, it leaves a weird hazy film on my windscreen and it won't come off unless I let both it and the windscreen dry and then use a dry microfiber and all but scrub it out. I never had any issues with my microfiber and my windscreen until this addition. -Because of the added height, it shakes a bit a higher speeds and causes the windscreen to shake with it, this also makes it harder to see through the faster you go. -The adjustable bits seem pretty flimsy, but once locked in place it seems to stay put, for now Now down to the real question, would I buy it again or recommend it to a friend? Absolutely. If you're looking for a solution without breaking the bank, this is it. I would just advise a word of caution, but at this price point, you really shouldn't be expecting anything less. It always blows my mind how people will spend 3 dollars on an item and expect it to perform like it's $90 alternative. I give it 5 stars because it does its job very well at deflecting wind, I took off a star for all the other bits that come with it.

Came with upgraded hardware to secure arms to mounts wich I think solved the issues with failure or weakness others have had .Ive found this a fantastic product works extremely well, tested at 110 mph and zero issues. Completly solid and has eliminated any helmet buffet at hiway speed while still maintaining a nice view over the top. I honestly feel this has made the front fairing more stable making bike more stable as well. The mounts are rock solid and I can not understand how this would ever just fall off. At this price it's a no Brainer for me . I bought the smaller version 11 inch, and has worked so well i just placed an order for the bigger one 14 inch from a different company. I prefer the clear version as well because when mounted it is in the lower line of sight. Something to concider especially if riding on rougher roads helps to see what directly in front of you. Update: the one from other company came today is not the same quality at all, returning .these wind screen are not all the same accross amazon as ive read from other reviews .I didnt realize motoparty sells a larger one aswell so I ordered one from them. will follow with Update.. Update: larger deflector came and I am just as happy with the product if not more, suits my very large motorcycle better. See my review on the larger from this vendor . I'm going to try the large deflector with the non upgraded plastic hardware and see how it does. I followed the instructions about pushing in the 360 locks to secure after adjustment and I have a feeling it will hold up just fine. I will update if the fail and go back to the upgraded wingnuts.. ..

I purchased this windshield and upon install couldnt get it to function properly. Hardware was no threaded correctly and i requested a replacement. Upon recieving the second one, i installed and Used it for approximately 1 month. Today while driving down the road, the plastic hardware that allows the windshield to be adjusted, disintegrated and the windshield came flying back smashing my helmet and chest. I was able to catch it but nearly wrecked. These things are a great idea but the execution is poor. Dont risk crashing and injury for a gimmick

Out of the box this shield is a piece of garbage- the hardware is plastic and easily falls out of place, leaving you with a floppy extra tall windshield. HOWEVER, with $8 worth of hardware you can turn it into a very sturdy piece of kit that reduces wind noise and buffering significantly. You’ll need 4x of each: 10-32 x1in Thumb screws M8 flat washers #10 flat washers #10 lock washers 10-32 wing nuts. Remove the old plastic hardware by putting it in the unlocked position and then pulling out the locking mechanisms along their twisting axis. Then remove the plastic pieces they made with (just fiddle with it and you’ll figure it out). Replace the plastic hardware with the new metal hardware in this order: Thumb screw, m8 washer, #10 flat washer, #10 lockwasher, #10 wing nut. Once you’ve done this the shield should be solid as a rock! I am quite pleased with how well it works.

I have an 08 Kawasaki versys, a bike I believe this windshield is supposed to fit without issue. It took some work to make it fit. There's no instructions so everything is guess and test. That said, after about an hour, I had a very sturdy, well fitting, adjustable windscreen. I am 100% confident that it's going to stay in place, has had no issue at 80+mph, and does a good job reducing wind noise. Mine came from China, so I don't know how difficult returns would be, but a little fandangling and you can likely get it to fit on even an odd windshield like the old versys. I can't compare this windscreen to any other aftermarket screen because I've never bought one, but I am glad I bought this little guy. Does a great job and the price is fair

I never write reviews, but am going to make an exception on this one. If you are reading this, you are probably looking at a number of reviews trying to decide whether or not to take a chance on this item, even though the reviews are just kind of okay. After buying one, I don’t know what to tell you, but the reviews on quality of the item are accurate. Instructions are poor, but it did come almost fully assembled, so that wasn’t an issue. The real negative is that the point of adjustment hardware is all plastic and literally falls apart whenever you touch it. I did get mine mounted and promptly used electrical tape to make the fittings stay together. I took a short ride, and it does reduce the wind buffeting. I think that if you are careful with it and use tape, or permanently eliminate the adjustment points with glue, you can make it work. I probably wouldn’t buy it again, but I probably would also not pay $100 more for one of the name brands.

Not bad for the price. I read some reviews of folks adding metal bolts/wing nuts to the bracket that attaches to your stock windshield. Mine came with them along with the regular plastic lever lock system. I opted to go with the plastic bits as it looked a little cleaner once mounted and felt secure enough in my garage. About 10 minutes into my highway ride at 70 mph the right side fell apart leaving the windshield swinging in the breeze on the left mount. I was able to pull over and throw it in my saddle bag. I went home and attached it with the metal bolts and tested it again with no issues. I ride a stock Versys 650 with stock windshield in the highest position. I’m 6’. I did notice a drastic difference in wind hitting my helmet. It seemed just tall enough to push the air over my helmet. I can also hear my engine, which is relatively quiet to begin with, with the windshield on which I couldn’t before. One thing I did find which I didn’t think about before was looking through it while riding. My line of sight was just over the stock windshield and free from obstruction. Now it’s looking through this tiny windshield which gives me a little bit of a tunnel vision effect. Just thought I’d mention it for anyone else that didn’t think about this and is more focused on cutting down on the wind. Overall works well for the price, especially compared to the $150+ price tag on a new taller windshield.

Right out of the box, the main pivot joint (close to the clamps that would attach to the original windscreen) came right out. There's a few plastic pieces in there but on examination I don't know how they expect those to hold. The company provides some thumbscrews which are meant to replace that mechanism, which shows that they must recognize there is a problem here. I attached a picture of the joint. The joint actually fell apart while I was riding, fortunately it fell on the deck of my bike and I didn't lose it on the road. EDIT: Gave it a second chance today. The part to hold the joint fell off on the road. This time it didn't land on my deck. I didn't try to find it. Will be sending it back today. Second problem was that once I had it mounted on my bike, I noticed that the top screw on one side that holds the windshield extension was completely missing. I'm not sure if it was missing when I got it and I just didn't notice, or if it fell out during installation. It doesn't appear that the fastener there is replaceable so I can't fix it. Picture is attached of the missing screw hole. The manufacturing throughout is of very uneven and questionable quality. In one spot there is a large plastic deformity that shouldn't be there (picture included). The hex screws in some have their recesses either offset from center or are extremely rounded (picture included). You may not need to replace these screws, but it speaks to poor quality. I was disappointed that the mechanism to clamp the unit to the original windscreen requires a small hex key. I assume this protects it from theft, but I know some extension designs make it possible to detach without screws, by providing either cam-operated clamps or thumbscrews. I only got to ride it for about 40 km as I was worried that the missing screw would cause the extension to break. During this time I didn't notice any improvement in wind noise or buffeting. The unit seems to cause my windscreen to vibrate a lot. Given the manufacturing issues I noted, I am not sure I would trust this unit to hold together at speed. EDIT: I went for another 30-km or so ride, using it to get to work. I find it does nothing for wind noise. I would not recommend.
