does this record mp3s that I can put on my computer?

Yes! It has a wide range of mp3 quality recording settings (stereo or mono). Most of the time, I record in mp3 format. I usually use 192kbps, but others are available (32kbps-320kbps). Of course it also records in .WAV format for lossless quality at a cost of space. Any files recorded are transferred to your computer via included mini-USB to standard USB cable (USB2). I can't speak about the microphone quality, as I only record live events directly from my mixing console to the DR-05 via the line input of the DR-05. Love this unit.

What is the recording capacity in hours

Will this record interviews w/very soft speakers and louder recordings? Can the digital recordings be organized and edited on a PC or Mac?

It handles high sound pressure (e.g. rock bands). For quieter material, you can adjust its recording level yourself, or set it to automatically adjust itself. Recordings can be copied to your PC or Mac using the supplied USB cable, then it's up to you to provide your own editing software. Keep in mind: This is not an iPod, this is a serious techy device -- you will probably need to read the manual to get the most out of it. I did.
